Has anyone tried replacing the needle tubes on the 01 & 02 Doo TM carbs or had the similar work done by Xtreme? Any feedback on the results?

TIA

Can you fill us in on your mod and if it can be done without sending them to Xtreme or Cyber-Dyne.

The mod is to replace the unhooded needle tube with hooded needle tube(same as 03 & 04). Also to rework the pilot for a better air/fuel mixture at idle.

The mod I plan on doing is to replace the press in jet with a replaceable jet. Cyber's is a hooded jet, but still pressed in.

Any updates on the mod you were talking about. I have been looking all over the net to see if there was any other solutions but found nothing.

Does anyone know if these pressed in tubes can be purchased anywhere?

Wish I had a spare set of carbs to play with.

I had Cyber-Dyne do my carbs last year. They are a local shop. I believe Joe replaces all the jets and needles along with a little grinding. Never disassembled after the work was done to get the specs. But he gave me a bag full of origanal parts removed. They work great.

P.S If your considering this mod use Xtreme so I can get on Joes Dyno sooner. LOL

I question whether or not the time spent reworking the older carb is cost effective in comparison to just putting on round slides. I suppose it's probably a draw, depending on circumstances, but the rounds offer more adjustability by the end user, it seems to me.

F111_151, The TM-40 carbs are very good carbs once reworked. I have full adjustabily but once dialed in you don't need to touch them except mains if you want to. I did nothing but adjust idle screw on the carbs Cyber did for me. I believe the switch to rounds would require airbox, throttle cabe, and maybe oil pump. Some guys here have done this and could tell ya more. This summer I will tear them down to see whats inside.

I've already done the round slide swap for the older flatslides. The box is the same, just need to change boots. Throttle lever needs to change, too. No reason to change the oil pump. AFAIK, you're still stuck not being able to change the needle jet. Granted, probably won't need to mess with that much if you ride pretty much the same area and only during winter months. It is a bit limiting, though. Major changes in temp or elevation will still present difficulty. And yes, I have and do use them during summer, although elevation changes are no longer an issue for me.

I'm not knocking the reworked flatslides, I just figured I was getting more bang for the buck by going to the rounds. Id rather have programmable EFI, though. :D
