Guys I just fired up my 02 mxz 800 got it warmed up and it has a BAD hesitation/bog when you first touch the throttle. It's idling very poorly (wants to stall or does) and is hard to start; if I put the choke on the 1st notch it fires up and revs real fast; I take the choke off and then it acts like it wants to die out and bogs down again real bad if I hit the gas. Installed VForce 3's a few weeks ago, just now getting around to getting it running again. Any advice? Thanks.

Did you let it warm up with the choke on? I fired my 800 up the other day and it wouldn't idle at all without the choke on. Once it warmed up it would idle with the choke off.

WOA!!!!! Before you go any further........It sounds like its running very lean! when you said you first fired it up , do you mean first time this year after storage???
If so, I would be Inclined to pull the carbs off the sled and go down into the float bowls and clean all the GREEN CRUD from the main jets.......DONT DRIVE IT TILL YOU DO THIS..........You will risk a melt down....TOO LEAN!!!!!!!!
:cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: :cussing:
Even if this is not first time, go into the carbs and make sure you have nothing pluging the mains!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I AGREE WITH (JOEWIN) CLEAN YOUR CARBS BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE. :D

Definately clean the carbs if you haven't already. I didn't mention that because I assumed you would have already since you already had them off to replace the reeds.
If it is fully warmed up and it bogs or dies when you give it gas jets could be clogged.

I pulled the bowls off last night and took the main jet out and cleaned it w/ carb cleaner, the jets weren't plugged. How much further into the carbs do I need to go?

Did you clean the pilot jets??

If you didn't find any crud you should be okay. If you did you should also pull the pilot jets to be certain they are okay.
It still sounds like a lean condition. Are you running it with the airbox installed? DPM installed correctly? Air leak between cases and reeds or reed spacers or leak between reeds and intake manifold. Double check your choke cable is adjusted correctly. Fresh gas? Wouldn't hurt to put a little iso-heet in the tank.
Just trying to throw ideas out there....

Theres also the issue of the rubber delaminating from the reed cages on the 800's that will cause the condition you describe. On the other hand it may just be the outside air temp affecting the calibration, the idle and part throttle carb circuits are funny about warmer air.

did u install a new gasket on those reed cages???
sounds like maybe the choke cable got pulled when you moved the carbs out of the way to get at the reeds and it is not operating properly. check to make sure the choke is operating correctly....also clean them carbs!
