I just bought my 700 RMK with the ves liberty engine and have herd about people cleaning the valves. How often do you clean the valves? What do you use to clean the valves? Do you need to replace the base gasket after you remove the valve housing? This sled has ran only the polaris ves oil 2 the whole time of its 900 miles and has never been cleaned to my knowledge....... should I dig into it yet??

Here is a page that has step by step instructions on how to clean your VES. Cleaning VES (http://www.hardcoresledder.com/ves.htm)
I like your sled! :D

The valves get Nasty dirty in like 600-800 miles. Especially on the Polaris VES Oil. I ran Amsoil Race Synthetic in mine later on and found that it burns MUCH cleaner.
Cleaning the valves.......just remove the 2 bolts and pull the valve out (careful with the gasket). They take the harshest Spray cleaner that you can find and soak them. Then get some steelwool, or a plastic spatula and scour away. Mine took me a LONG time to get 100% clean. The deposits were so tough, it was unbelievable. Amsoil "power-foam" worked very well to clean these.
Then bolt it back in and go for a test ride!

I just cleaned my 600 valves last night. 800 miles. They were coated with carbon and one did not pull straight out but neither was stuck. I cleaned them up with a wire wheel like always and good to go. I've tried different oils and always have the same results. They do get carbon builup. Currently I'm using regular Amsoil.
I use a die grinder with a copper wire. Many people say not to do this but I have been doing it for years with no problem. The valves are hardened steel and I dont see any damage on them from the wire. It cleans them up in no time at all. I can't imagine doing it by hand anymore.

If the gasket doesn't tear when you remove valve assembly you can reuse it.
