: Blew my secondary apart

Just came back from a trip to northern Ontario and I had
some troubles. Some how I managed to blow the fixed half of
my secondary off! The bolt, washer and inner half with helix
were all still on the jack shaft but the other half decided
to eject itself while I was up near 90 MPH. The mechanic in
Kap said that he's only seen this in the older sleds and not
any of the newer models. Mine is a 98 FIII 700. Has anybody
seen or heard of this? Anybody know how or why this might
have happend?

Maluchm,

I saw this on a 98 Mach1 before, Ski-Doo had a recall for this very problem if I remember correctly on 700 and 800 triple sleds. I also saw one come apart on my brother in laws 01' MXZ 800, on the MXZ the fixed half fell off the "hub" that it was casted on to. On the Mach1 it exploded sending shrapnel all over the place, lucky no injury occured.

I think the recall was for the TRA clutch, primary, not the secondary. If you go into the recall site here there is more info about it. 2nd button from the left on top of page.

The recall on the 98's was for hairline cracks in the secondary
clutch. Mine was looked at and we couldn't find any. It came
apart where it's knurled together.
