Has anyone used a 24/44 gear combo on their zx chassie? What size chain did you use with those gears?

I find it hard to believe that the stock 74 pin chain will not fit? Its just a hair too short!

zx case, 24/44 is at the loose end of the range for a 76t chain (a lot of adjuster needed), a used 74 may go on ? I've done it with other ''end of the range" combinations.

mxzjunky: What exact sled are you referring to? I'm not aware of any zx sled that comes with a 44 sprocket. They all call out a 43 in the Technical Data manual.... ?

auggie: Not sure on the distance, i can measure it? do you know the maxium distance allowed for the 74 chain to work?

hillpounder: I agree with what you are saying about the adjustment. That "used" 74 must have really streached for it to fit 44/24 gears?

Please give me your opinion: , I want to run a 1.8 ratio. Is there any advantage in using the 44/24 ratio with the long chain, vs. a 43/23 ratio with the short chain? The 44 gear is allot heavier than the 43 gear, however, i'm hearing that the 44 will apply more power to the track?

Thanks everyone for your responce. :D

Well, if you can get me the center to center dist. I can give you a math formula that will answer all of your questions.

Skidoomaster sorry you are correct i was looking an a 2001 race manual at the ratio and spped chart but this is for a different chasis. I did look into it in the section prioir to that and it does call out a 76 chain.

The 44 gear is what the mech reverse kits use.

the combo that I made a used chain (1 or 2 rides) was a 20/43 (chart show it would need a74, but a 72 fits with hardly any adjustment. 24/44 may not be dooable? but might worth a try. The mech reserve has a idler roller that takes small bit of slack, so if he has rev, the shorter chain for sure won't work.

If possible a chain/gear combo that doesn't doesn't have a huge dogleg in its run from the adjuster is better IMO, 23/43 (1.87) would be prefered over 24/44 (1.83) in my book.

Remember that most gear/mph charts are 1:1 shift, the tra will shift 1.2:1 in good conditions, so you can gear lower than the chart.

Jon, to answer your question, the 44t bottom gear will give you more "leverage" at the track. Hope this helps, Dave.
