: Polaris Ad""
RED800 11-22-2003, 12:13 PM why is everyone makin a big stink about this polaris ad,this is what brand bashing is about, hell most of it is true, cat took a motor and tipped it on its side and threw a cowl on it and narrowed the tunnel, thats not innovative, bash polaris all u want there edge sled is only 3 yrs old,but remeber when polaris comes out with the new iron in 05 your 03-04 design will be ancient "right'.i'm polaris faithful but what i think is innovative is ski-doo's sdi 600-800 engines, not the changed seat or the different cowl, the engines!! or take cats direct drive on the 900,something new!!i'll be the first one to admit polaris is doo for some new iron, but i do know alot of u polaris haters will be doin alot of rubber necking next year along with changing brands.......so keep the brand bashing comin, i luv it
800 K 11-22-2003, 05:19 PM :withstupid: I agree
Deadman 11-22-2003, 10:51 PM You've gotta look at it from a "non-polaris owners" perspective though............
Really Polaris has done Nothing as far as changes to their sleds since 2001. Yet they Bash the other Brands for making STRIDES in the right direction.
Even though many may not like what cat or Doo has done, they have created a better and more popular machine. So they are happy and so are their buyers.
You really have to just look at the Big-Picture here........Polaris has done nothing but change Stickers on their sleds since 2001, everyone else has made huge changes. I guess the Sales tell the real story. Polaris FELL from #1 because of their lack of motivation. They need a new sled to get back customers.
I was a life-long polaris junkie, but switched to a REV SDI because Polaris changed nothing from my 2001 XC SP to their new model XC SP. SO it was a simple and Brillant move. I may go back to polaris some day, but they will have to work 3 times as hard to get me back. Simply Put! :D
NewfieBullet 11-22-2003, 11:24 PM No matter how new or old Polaris' design is, you can't argue with success. Their add raises some very valid points, and is just trying to make people aware that just because somethiung is new does not mean it's better.
Every time people talk about the Rev they rave about how good it is through bumps. One most groomed trails that I've been on it's over kill. A mid 90's XCR, ZR or SX are all still great sleds on groomed trails, so an '04 Classic, XC and Pro-X certainly have alot to offer.
The reason I chose Polaris when I chose a new sled is because it was a tried and true design. If the Rev and the F-chassis are really that much of an improvement then the designs will be around for a long time, and I can buy one in 2 or 3 years when I get another new one.
jtkennedy9 11-22-2003, 11:45 PM Hopefully Polaris will bring out something that will take the industry by storm.
03ProX 11-23-2003, 01:26 AM I agree i read the ad and really they werent bashing they were just making us aware of all of the service bulletins cat issued for the knew F-Cat, to me its the truth. Look at Cats ad with there sled way ahead of poo, doo and yamaha, whats the difference between that ad and polaris' ad?
Crash Bandicoot 11-23-2003, 09:14 AM We are pretty much for the most part like sheep.
What is a sled really? a motor and a track throw in some skis maybe..
Lot's of griping about something you use maybe if you are lucky 12 weeks a year
Cost a lot of dough for something that you use this sparingly. Why do you need a new "gadget" every year? They just want you to buy another one but they are basically the same.
I have some friends who are driving 10 year old iron and they are just as happy as everyone else, maybe happier because they have some spare change in their pockets.
I don't care what you drive/ride you can only go so fast on the trail while still being in control of your hardware. And be truthful there is always some kid just ahead of you on a 1980 Yamaha 340 that you just can't catch!
Ski Doo is going to run into the same problem as Polaris... they are pumping out sleds like crazy. Their turn will come when it is not in their best interest to be really innovative with a new sled. They will have hundreds of thousands of "new old stock" to get rid off.
Lot's of brand new 02 -03 Polaris for sale EVERYWHERE!
If they pull out a trick sled now where will all these pieces go?
anteater 11-23-2003, 05:06 PM You know what my problem is with the snowmobile industry is why do we need new style sleds every two years. It's a waist of money trading off or selling sleds so a person can buy a new one every two or three years. The only reason I really buy new sleds is because I want whats new, not because I really need a new sled or that there is anything wrong with the one I have.for instance I had a new 1998 xc 700 I sold it and bought a new 2000 xc 700sp,why ?? because of the new hood,in reality I look back and wish I would have kept my 98 it only had 3800 miles on it then which would be a lot now but it's cheaper for new pistons and rings than it is to trade.plus the 98 was a faster sled.last year I bought a pro-x !why?cause it was new not because I needed it my 2000 xc 700 now only has 3200 miles on it because of the low snow conditions we have had.but I kept my 00 700 anyway.bottom line look at honda ATV's they have hardly changed in the past ten years ,why because they work and are reliable,in my opinion just like a polaris sled,so people need to get past this new every two or three years crap including me and enjoy the sport!!
spikegary 11-23-2003, 05:26 PM I thought that Polaris was classier than that ad. The only reason to point out the faults of others is to hide your faults from others.
Why not go in, develop a sled and tout it-Polaris does have some nice stuff out there now-there must be a way to make people interested in that.
It's all about class-and Polaris showed none with that ad.
Sharkey 11-23-2003, 05:50 PM Yes the ad did nothing to really entice you to buy Polaris either, a longer warranty does nothing to provide that buyers sizzle. Put some bikini babes in there and we might have something. :p
skid jackson 11-23-2003, 07:58 PM Where can i see a copy of this ad?? I haven't seen it yet buy see posts about it all over the net??
BDaddy 11-23-2003, 10:03 PM I too think we're expecting the big four to develop faster than other forms of transportation. But is is certainly a trend we are seeing. Look at truck bodies. Chevy had the same body from 1973 to 1987, and then again from 1988 to 1998 and from 99 continuing. Fords, same body from ?80 to 95, then 96 to 03. All they really do is refine both ends. Maybe the rev and F5-7 will be here come five years from know. They could then enjoy some refinement. There is much to be said for allowing the OE's to "refine". Most realize that you'd better expect some issues in a first year sled. I for one would be quite preturbed with a ton of service issues on something that cost close to ten grand. The edge chassis is really only in it's third year of consumer use. I believe that is has many more good years ahead. I don't expect that we will see much in terms of Horsepower increases. There comes a point where we humans can only handle so much. This horsepower war took place with muscle cars in the late sixties - early seventies, and then ended. I for one, want a sled that handles well, and has something in front of me in case diver error or bad luck finds a stationary object. Enough rabble, Polaris will roll out something new soon, but I hope that we never see the quality issues like we did on the 95-96's again.
spikegary 11-24-2003, 12:06 PM Mine was an insert in Sno-Goer magazine.
tifa_5_2000 11-25-2003, 05:26 PM good points made. but i really dont care about the ad. IMO mike

why is everyone makin a big stink about this polaris ad,this is what brand bashing is about
And brand bashing does nothing to help our sport evolve or gain respect. The ad was done in really poor taste. Sure they have every right to run an add like that but what do they really stand to gain from it. They are not gonna sway to many people to dump there Rev or F series Cat to purchase a new ( old ? ) Polaris. Polaris should stop wasting money on crappy advertising and spend it on the developement of new sleds. Lets face it would we be having this same arguement if Polaris put a new style hood and belly pan on the Pro X series when it debuted ? No. Because the sled would look fresh. Lets face it we are a nation that requires constant change to keep us happy. Even a sled that is 3 years old looks ..well old even if it's not.

The difference was they didn't bash and pick the other manufactures products apart. IMO they just showed a pic of what many seen on the lakes last year and capitalized on it. Was it in poor taste ? Hell no it was rather funny just like all of Cats ads. They have imo some of the best ad people in the business that really know how to make you aware of Cat's product.
fordfan397 11-26-2003, 10:56 AM The difference was they didn't bash and pick the other manufactures products apart.
Man these cat guys are sensitive!! The difference was that there is no difference. The Cat ad showed their sled out front in a race... the Polaris ad showed why this doesn't really happen, by showing the REAL differences with the sleds... the "insides", what REALLY counts. Sure the cat ad is funny, humorous, whatever. But the truth hurts when the hoods are popped and the schematics are unrolled... that's all Polaris is doing, showing the REAL differences... tellin' the truth... and sometimes that isn't so funny.:blahblah:

And I'm not a Cat guy. Actually I'm a fan of all the brands as I can see the merits in each. For the record though I doo currently ride a Ski Doo.
BCthetwo 11-26-2003, 01:22 PM Sometimes the truth hurts. You notice everybody #####in about the ad but noone arguing about the facts.
IMO Polaris shouldn't have run the ad, it isn't the classiest way to advertise, but negative advertising's purpose is not so much to sell you're own product but to try and keep people from buying someone else's. It's about time Polaris started steering the argument away from "Old technology" and "trailing arm phobia." I don't think Polaris can hold a candle to the REV in trail performance and ride quality but they can compete in durability and quality which is what their goal is right now.
I'm an intermediate rider. All the technology in the world isn't going to make me an expert. I ride Polaris because since I started riding, it seems like they have been very durable and reliable, and because they're MADE IN AMERICA, and because I like the dealer.
Geez, amazing how this sport gets me fired up!
Is it snowing yet?

RED800 11-26-2003, 02:32 PM OK LISTEN!POLARIS WAS THE #1 LEADER IN SNOWMOBILE SALES FOR HOW LONG? team old iron 11-27-2003, 11:05 AM The ad is also in Polaris' 04 catalog. They even go further with comparing a 04 rmk with a 03 zx summit, way to go polaris
