On simplest terms the ZR's are the performance sleds, while the ZL's are more of your trail/touring kind of sleds. The ZR's are closer to the sno pro racers than the ZL's. Hope this helps ya.

The chasis are almost identical between the zr and zl. The zl uses different shocks with softer settings for more casual trail riding whereas the zr has stiffer suspension for more aggresive riding. The T660 comes is similar to the zl, with shocks for casual trail riding and the aws 5 front suspension. This chasis is an excellent performer on the trail and can handle the rough stuff excellent and goes around turns like its on rails. So if your aggresive rider then the zr is for you but if your more into trail riding the zl is for you. The zl also can come with electric start and reverse.

Thanks fellas. So what your saying is the front end(a-arms) and back end(suspension) are the same other than the shocks and springs?

Yes juk the front and rear ends are all the same on the zr and zl's they only come with different shocks and settings.
HP&Torgue I haven't been back yet to see if it came in. I'll be checking with them at the first of the week. As soon as I get it I plan to put it on.

I thought the chassis on the T660's is different! They look a hell of alot bigger than the regular ZR,ZL!! I prefer the ZR myself even for trail riding! The whoops get pretty bad and the ZR's suspension handles them better!!!!! IMO

Xtreme I think it is only different in the fact that the bellypan and hood had to be reworked to fit the 3 cyclinder 4 stroke. The previous years of 4-stroke where in the zr chasis. It uses the same style front and rear suspensions, the mags actually say they handle alot like the ZRT's. I could be wrong but thought this is what I had read somewheres.

Depends on model year also,
98 and 99 ZR and ZL classis used different contol arms depending on model and ski stance.
The ZL had a wider ski stance and thus longer control arms.
Not sure on the 2001 and newer chassis.

Since the ZL's intro duction it's been a toned down ZR. The Shocks have usualy went from FOX or ACT (ZR) to Ryde FX (ZL) plus less harsh springs. I prefer the ZR cause its got a stiffer ride, it sacrifices a little comfort but I like the added cornering and handling abilities. The T660 is sitting in the ZR chassis, but as phatcat already stated the bellypan has been altered and a completely new hood has been put on it to fit the Turbo 4 stroke. I think what really throws people off is the Firecat/Sabercat headlights. Those make poeple think what the heck chassis is that? kinda looks familiar

Yes versatileman is right. In 98 and up the Zl's had a 43" ski stance while the 98 and 99 Zr's had a 41" ski stance. I think the Zr's ski stance went to 43" in 2000 when they changed the chasis.
