: Trailing Arm...
maninblack 11-30-2003, 12:12 AM i am looking for the left handside trailing arm for a 1998 formula z 670.
i was bringing it into the garage this past tuesday... throttle stuck and it packed the corner of the door. it didn't mess up anything else... just the trailing arm is in a V-shape now, i could heat it up and bend it back, but i was told that heating it would weaken it, and i don't really want it weakened.
anyways... i've called all around to a bunch of places and no one seems to have one. so i wondering if any of you know of anybody/place to get ahold of for one. doesn't matter what state you're in... any suggestions would be more than appreciated. thanks
also... correct me if i am wrong, but say... the trailing arm off a 98 formula deluxe 500, that would fit right? i know its different than mxz's.... mine... it needs the trailing arm to have the slide piece for the swaybar, and also when looking at it from the front... there are 3 holes up and down.
thanks again and any suggestions would be GREAT!!!!!
zr580cat 11-30-2003, 12:39 AM If you're looking for used, I'd try Mohawk's Salvage in Hibbing, MN. A couple weeks back, I was looking for some used parts & I sent emails to every single snowmobile salvage yard that I found on the internet, in the U.S. & Canada. I only had a few reply to me & only 2 ended up having the part. One was in Canada & total cost was about twice as much as Mohawk. Not promising anything, but if you want to give them a try:
http://www.uslink.net/~mohawk/
They said that they ship to people all over the country.
Let me know what you find out.
maninblack 11-30-2003, 12:54 AM thanks
FuzzButt 11-30-2003, 01:16 AM I was going to mention the Salvage route but zr580cat beat me to it.
A good Salvage yard is where I would start. You should be able to get it new also. Things I would not buy at a salvage yard are engine parts, clutches and things that spin at high speeds. We had a fan belt go on a 480 FC Phazer and my brother bought a used fan for it. That fan looked great but lasted about 5 miles before it exploded.
Anyway check for the trailing arm. Look on the bright side you can take both of them off and clean them up and paint them so they will look like new again.
Good luck,
Chris
jtkennedy9 11-30-2003, 01:19 AM Maybe your nephew should pay for it..oh wait, it was your mistake. Dude I'm not trying to be an ###, but do you see my point? Everybody makes mistakes.
puree 11-30-2003, 01:20 AM DO NOT TRY TO FIX IT,,,,,,salvage is definetly the way to go

::scratchinhead:: dude... not to be an ###, but i see NO point!!
IIIIIIIIIII fudged the trailing arm on MYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY snowmobile. i had EVERY single right in the world to be on it and mess it up.
he on the other hand DID NOT!!!!!!!! he wrecked an entire snowmobile he DID NOT even belong on it. he's done things like that i don't know how many times now. it's past the point of being a mistake. its a recurring thing with him.
you mean to tell me that if someone was known for taking other peoples things and ruining them... and one day he/she took off with your car/truck/atv/snowmobile... whatever and wrecked it... you never gave him/her permission to take it. you would just say "oh its okay bobby/sally it was only a mistake"? BULLLLLLLLSSSSSSSSHHHHHIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTT!!!! !!!!!!!!!
jtkennedy9 11-30-2003, 01:28 AM Big difference. If you took my sled out and I didn't know you, yea I would kick your ###. But this is your nephew. I don't agree with what happened, but I have a BIG problem with the paralyzed comment.

so what you're saying is that it's okay for family to "steal" your things and wreck them? a thief is a thief and thats all he is.
as for the paralyzed comment.. i didn't mean to offend anyone, but with me thieves rank just as low as rapists and pedophiles. forget i even said the word paralyze, theres worse things that could be done to thieves... like him and i wish they would. and no its not death
maninblack 11-30-2003, 01:37 AM i don't care if someone is family, a friend, or just someone i read about in the paper... if they steal something... they are worthless and i don't give a rats ### about them
jtkennedy9 11-30-2003, 01:38 AM maninblack, I don't know the history of you family. If your nephew has pulled s**t in the past, then he needs or his parents need to be accountable. But to wish any harm on a family member is just wrong. Again, I understand you're upset, and I would be too. But he is after all your family, and family comes first.
FuzzButt 11-30-2003, 01:51 AM Can any one say "Felony Vehicle Theft"? or "Malicous Destruction of Property"?
I would have a long chat with his parents is I was your Brother-in-Law. This kid sounds like a serial thief and needs to know that if he was just some schmo off the street and this happened he would be cuffed and behind bars.
While I did not have the damage done to my sled I did have it stolen. It was found almost a year later in the next county over from me. The Prosecutor for that County was not able to find enough evidence for the Grand Theft or receiving stolen property unfortunetly. I did have the impound and towing fees waved and the Sargent incharge even helped me load it on my trailer. I took 3 years off from snowmobiling because of this. It hurts when something you enjoy is taken away from you. I don't think I will ever forget and I doubt I'll forgive my self for not locking down my sled in my own backyard.
Well I'll end my rant here.

sorry to hear about that, at least you got it back though
and its a damn shame when you need to lock your things up so no one will take them.
i don't think i'm ever going to forgive myself because i tweaked the trailing arm and now i can't find one :cussing: :cussing: :cussing: oh well... #### happens, i'm sure i'll find one somewheres
oh... could i just get one straight from ski-doo? if i can... prolly cost me an arm and a leg
PAZR700 11-30-2003, 08:19 AM Did you try hudson snowmobile salvage in Deerfield? Have been there for a few things and they have 2 buildings full of parts. I don't have their number, and not sure what county its in....come to think of it not sure it's in Deerfield, but it's between Deerfield and Booneville.
Bryan
Spaceman 11-30-2003, 09:16 AM Isn't all this ranting about someones nephew from some other post. Why isn't this post about the trailing arm and all this skwalking about theft in the other post where it belongs.
puree 11-30-2003, 01:49 PM and the nephew comments roll on into yet another thread
blackknight 11-30-2003, 03:36 PM Did you try Dennis Kirk or Shadetree?

FuzzButt 11-30-2003, 08:58 PM You might want to look to Recreational Leasure in Farmington Michigan. They might have it in their catalog.
Chris
Scott S 12-01-2003, 12:15 AM Oddly enough when I bent the trailing arm on my doo I got a better price from my local doo dealer. It was under 100 cdn with new bushings and sway bar mount.
I bent mine on a drain cover lid at 10 miles an hour crossing he road with my 5 year old daughter on board. It stopped dead and bent out on a 45. Kicked it in and putted home.
Thumbdoctor 12-01-2003, 10:06 AM maninblack,
The LH swing arm you seek P/N 506135010 for '97-'98 Formula Z has been changed to P/N 506135000. Kimpex doesn't have a listing for either part number, but I have seen some Zs running around with black painted swing arms so I surmise that they are available if you contact them here (http://www.kimpex.com/) and inquire, you will probably find the part your looking for. The price for the OEM swing arm is $182.47 USD and the Kimpex average price on swing arms is $85.00 CDN. Hope this some help.
T.D.
