Look through the past posts on this site.PAGE 11 There is a detailed print on one of the messages for a look-a-like reclift. It was fuzzy when I printed it, but you may be able to e-mail the guy and get better prints. (Saw rec-lifts at a show Sat for $175.00)

Wow I can't believe all you guys without lift's!! there the best for working on your sleds, once you have one, you'll wonder how you got along with out one. I built one as a gift for a friend of mine a few years back, I made my own plans by working off a couple of pictures of lifts in a catelog. they were just simple sketchs on notebook paper which I no longer have. They are pretty simple. I used 11 gauge 1 inch square tubing which I got from the local steel company....don't do that! the thing was strong as Ox but weighed 3 tons! They build them out of a lot lighter tubing now. the hardest part is getting the Geometry right when mounting the screw drive trailer tounge jack that you can buy at the local tractor supply store. If you don't get it in the right spot it will want to bind, and not lift well. If you can swing putting caster wheels on it, you won't be sorry, its great to roll your sled around inside the garage, out on the drive for washing, or out of the way in the corner. Babbitts sales in muskegon mich. had them in their preseason sale last weekend for $129.00. By the time you buy steel, paint, bolts, and the screw jack you have $100.00 bucks in it! DooZ ;) ;)

I was at Murry's auto parts and saw a lift for tranny and other stuff. It was made by AC Delco. It looked like it could be made to work for sleds with a different platform. It was only around a $100. It uses a hydralic bottle jack to lift. Something for you guys to check out. I also thought about making a dfferent base with it.

hey guys here is a picture of a lift i just bought at the chicago atv and snowmobile show cost $179.00 cash no tax. i would think you would have to put a price on your time. the company i bought it from is recreational stuff phone #1-888-389-9072 . just thought i would pass the info. on.

I don't understand why these companys don'tput Bottle jacks on them. It makes lifting them so much faster and easier. How hard does yours crank 2dooski? Does it take a minute or two to crank? i guess you could use a drill sriver to do it.

I just finished building my version of a Mar-lift with a hand winch and #@$^ does it work great. You can get the sled 2-3 feet in the air in like 10 seconds and same on the down side. It only cost me $70 Canadian to build and 2 hours of work. I can't belive how stable they actually are 2 1/2 feet in the air. Will never work on a sled without one again.

Well I picked the stuff up to make sled lift using kgmz's plans. All the supplies cost me about $50 US. My brother worked on it from about 7:00-9:40 last night. I cut and drilled and he welded(My welding never looks very good). We have everything welded and ready to put togethor just had to pick up some more bolts today. It was more a matter of some assembly required with these plans. Thanks for the plans.

Maxwell

jdsmi,

I also drew it in 3D. Namely Solidworks which allows me to dynamic rotate the whole assembly. I saw no interference, therefore I think you are incorrect. Also if you look at the BOM item #7 is a 1" X 1 1/2", with the hole going in the long side, therefore 3/4" from the bottom is in the middle of that side.

jdsmi
10-10-2002, 08:03 AM
Maxwell,

I also use SolidWorks (awsome program). Dynamic motion looks really cool and you are correct. Just glancing through the bom, I used 1x2 for item 7. That's what I get for playing when I should be working...

Where are you located?

Maxwell
10-10-2002, 10:39 PM
Believe it or not, but I live in Maple Grove and work for machine tool distributor in Plymouth, right here in Minnesota! How about you?

Maxwell

10-11-2002, 08:26 AM
That's interesting! A friend of mine (who coincidentally works for the SolidWorks VAR in Maple Grove) modeled the same lift along with a complete sled. I thought maybe you were him, but he rides a Yamaha and I see you ride a Cat.

I live in Cambridge and work for a plastics company in White Bear Lake.

Where do you ride?

Maxwell
10-11-2002, 11:19 AM
I found the jack at Fleet Farm for $27.99. Does any body have a cheaper source?

jdsmi,

I ride from my home quit often, I am about 2 blocks fromthe Northwest trail system. Otherwise i ride up in the Emily/Crosby area, near my in-laws cabin. And lately I have been going to Michigan whenever I can. I will ride anywhere there is snow!

and you?

Maxwell

jdsmi
10-11-2002, 11:44 AM
Sounds like a decent price for the jack. You could try Northern. There's also a camper supply/repair buisiness in Princeton called Pattens. They might have one laying around they could sell cheap.

I'm usually somewhere between Cambridge and MilleLacs (when time and kid's schedules permit). We also like to ride St. Croix State Park. Great family riding because there's no bars close by.

Pray for snow...

NDMtnSledder
10-14-2002, 09:02 AM
Yeah a few but it was cause I had trouble reading the plans. My own fault. One thing to be careful of is make sure you get enough width on the front piece that jack mounts to so it will fit outside the bottom and top.

I actually enjoy building my own dollies, stands, and I am now having a brain fart on how to build a simple lift to keep the track off the ground in the summer time, I have stands already but I am tired of lifting the back of the sled all the time.......I want it to be in one swift motion, I have looked online for ideas but there pics are too small and I cannot see the details...can ANYONE help? Sure would appreciate it. Rick

I,m not sure if you just want to lift the a$$ end or the whole sled, if its the whole thing FishHog built one of his own and put details here some where. If just the rear, a guy built one at work , just a leaver with hooks on one end set up on a stand.
Good luck, Todd

Nice looking work revrnd !! You did that yourself ? fab work and everything??

revrnd
04-09-2003, 11:59 AM
Yep, the welding would have been easier w/ a decent MIG outfit. The thinwall tubing can be tricky where it's radiused. I have a chop saw & drill press here so that helps.

I made some changes especially where the bracket is welded to the jack tube. I wasn't impressed how the design shows a piece of 1/2" tube just welded sideways to the jack. I'll post a sketch & pic of the detail tonight (This piece I made @ work). W/ this change there is more weld between the jack tube & bracket.

NDMtnSledder
04-09-2003, 02:04 PM
I built that one to and it works great. My friend also built one but he put rollers on it. Doesn't quite fit under his ext with the roller lifting it a shade but fits under my sled without any lifting. I think i'll add some rollers to mine to. He just put a bracket in the four corners and I think he used 1" wheels, nice for moving the sled around the shop.

ZR Rider

Good looking garage there Rev!
I have all the material cut and welded, just haven't had the time to bolt it up! I'm interested in the change you made, sounds like the change I made!!
I'm also add casters to mine, made "L" backets and welded them to the sides, all 4 corners! Should make it easier to pull the sled out of the garage to wash the skid and de-ice after rides.

revrnd
04-09-2003, 11:17 PM
Here's a shot of the piece I made to weld to the outer tube of the jack.

revrnd
04-09-2003, 11:43 PM
Here the sketch for the above part.

revrnd
04-09-2003, 11:55 PM
At the rear of the lift, where it contacts the running boards, I welded 2 pieces of 1" x 2" x 3" long tubing to the lift. On top of this is a piece of 1/8" x 2" x 3" long w/ rubber taped to it. These replace the swinging pieces shown on the sketch.

At the front, my X bar (detail #4) is 17" long & is welded between the 2 detail #7 pieces instead of across the top. This piece is located 3" from the front edge of the #7 pieces.

On top of this X bar, I welded 2 more pieces of 1" x 2" x 3" tubing @ the outer edges. Rubber protects the front section of the chassis.

Also when this lift info was first posted, a correction was noted as follows: the holes @ the front of Det. #7 should be 3/4" from the top of the detail, not the bottom.

I used 3/8" dia. shoulder screws thru out. You shouldn't use a threaded bolt as a pivot. 7/16" cap screws or shoulder screws are a rare breed.

revrnd

Here's a better pic of the lift & you can see where I made the changes.

Even if you don't change the front Xbar I think you'd be wise to tape some rubber or hose on top of it to protect your bellypan. Also if the contour is irregular, the rubber will conform to the shape & the sled won't be sitting on 1 or 2 points causing stress to the plastic.

My wife just offered to get me a snowmobile lift for Xmas. Right On!!!
I've borrowed my buddies a few times and it's great for working on your sled. He had it made for him for about $250 or so.
(You know what they say "If you have to borrow something more that twice, you need one")
My question is, do I buy one from Royal Distributing for $399 or go with the home made model for $250 - $300?
The home made model has no tricks just lifts the sled off the ground.
Does the Royal model have anything special about it??

What do you sled heads think?? Has anyone acually seen the Royal model??

ZR Rider

There is on mine 4 - 1"x2" steel tubes that the sled rests on... basicly, where the front bolts in the skid frame mount... right there is a lift point on my ZR... and at the front... it seems happy right where the skiwell opening ends and the bellpan runs back to the tunnel.

Hey kqmz or revrnd,

I Just bought the steel to build this lift, but for the life of me I cannot find the specific Bulldog Jack Model # TWL151DS. If by chance that I can't get my hands one, what should I look for in a Jack? How much lifting Cap., jack lift range. & so on. I was looking around on harborfrieght.com & found two possibilities (part numbers 47267-0VGA
and 42950-0VGA) check them out & let me know what you think.

Thanks for the plans

Brent

revrnd
12-03-2003, 04:24 PM
It says on the print that you need a minimum 12" travel on the jack, 2000 lb capacity.

Both should be OK. The 47267-0VGA since it's square makes it easier to weld the piece of pipe to it.

Boy are those prices normal for the US? You definitely wouldn't get a jack in Canada for even 3 times those prices.

bmezindy500
12-03-2003, 06:44 PM
Rev,
Thanks tons! Are you saying that the prices are good or not so good?
After all my looking around they where the cheapest I'd seen.
Besides Harbor Freight is like the Wal-mart for the Garage!

Thanks again & Ride Safe

Has anyone had to rework their lift to use w/ a REV?
I had to cut down the handle a bit because it was hitting the belly pan. Then it looks like we'll have to add a 2" block to the rear pad because the sled is only being picked up @ the front of the tunnel.
