: Discontinued Cats
phat_cat800 12-04-2003, 12:28 PM I got this idea off another forum and thought I would post it here. So what Cat model(s) do you wish were still made. If you choose other then post the model.
I wish Cat still made all of the triples, T-cats and ZRT's. Also the smaller ZR's like the 500 and 600's.
jdsmi 12-04-2003, 12:47 PM I'm fond of the ZRT's also but I voted for the Wildcat. Letters don't mean a whole lot. I like the old names and Wildcat was one of the better names with one of the shortest lives.
BGTRK19472 12-04-2003, 12:54 PM I wish they still made a prowler, but with the current front and rear suspension and with reeds and power valve or EFI 500. SWRules
SD_Sledhead 12-04-2003, 01:20 PM I voted for ZRT! I thought the Cat triples were always some of the best looking sleds on the trails. I like their hoods way better then the hoods that Cat had on their twins.
piped bravo 12-04-2003, 03:24 PM bye far the baby ZRT ....something about a small 3/3.... :inlove:
jdsmi 12-04-2003, 03:50 PM A Wildcat with the 3x3 600. Winner!
Skimikecat 12-04-2003, 03:54 PM Thundercat, only one ride is all it took for me to be convinced... Now if I could only find some traction.
highlandergerman 12-04-2003, 04:47 PM I miss the zrts, or the thundercats however you want to look at it.
Snowride 12-04-2003, 05:45 PM I'm a touring guy and I have yet to find a sweeter ride than my present Triple Touring. Engine is just soooo smooooth. Love it.
riverracer 12-04-2003, 07:01 PM I miss the old names like El tigre. A bunch of letters is just too confusing for an old guy like me.
straycat 12-04-2003, 07:44 PM i have had the zrt, never had a T CAT....but i sure would have,
liked to owned one some day.
nothing like the power of that bad boy. :hallo1:
puree 12-04-2003, 09:05 PM I too like the names better than the letters,,,I voted tcat,,,,I figured that tcat would win hands down, but I was wrong,,,,
Nice poll
Wildcat 007 12-04-2003, 09:17 PM i think all the triples should be brought back :hallo1:

I am with you Riverracer!! nice handle BTW... i voted zrt as in 800. i wish cat had done more R&D on the motor while they had it... but the first thing i thought of was an 1981 el tigre' 5000 the big, ( at that time) free air twin... i have always wanted one :whatever:
phat_cat800 12-04-2003, 10:11 PM Yeah HP&Toqure if cat had tried some power valves and efi on the ZRT 800's it would have been awsome. My brother used to have an old el'tigra 5000 free air and that thing was the worst POS ever. It broke down everytime it hit the snow. My stepdad had an 80 el'tigra 6000 with a 580 engine I belive it was, might of been a 530 I cant remember.
Well my MBRP can was suppose to be in today do I went to work took out the stock can and the pipes, went down to the store and its on backorder :cussing: . Its gonna be another week before it comes in.
HP&Torque 12-04-2003, 10:17 PM Man you have been waiting along time for the silencer!!! Hopefully they are not fooling ya, when they say another week..... Defiently let us know how it fits and works!!! G
phat_cat800 12-05-2003, 09:00 AM I know it seems like forever. I'm know the guy I deal with and have gone 4 wheeling with him a couple times so I doubt he is fooling with me. Just his supplier had to order it in. I did get some good news though this morning and my green hood is all ready.
Big800 12-05-2003, 10:02 AM ZRT! ZRT! ZRT! :hallo1:
Also, they should bring back the Kitty Cat for the little ones.....
Suicide Machine 12-05-2003, 01:21 PM I think all the names need to come back. The Jag, Cougar, El Tigre, Thundercat, Boss Cat, Prowler, Puma, Lynx, Kitty Cat. All of them, and the EXT need to stop being used as the longtrack option for the Firecats, and become its own sled again. Remeber those olf 530 and 550 El Tirgre EXT's?? Any I voted for the Wildcat. The original big win from cat. THE SLED TO BEAT in its day, nothing could touch it when it came out. My dad had an 88 and traded it in for the 89. I eventually became my sled and I loved the hell out of it. I got the radar run sheets some where buried that proved it would still do 103mph to the day I sold it. Not bad for an 89 650 twin with 5000 miles of abusive miles on it. Letters and numbers suck, so happy to see that Cat is atleast using names again with the Firecat, Sabercat and Mountain Cat, hopefully Cat will return again to the way the used to be with black sleds with baddass names. AND Firecat is a cool name, but Hellcat would be so much cooler.

DAMN STRAIT
ZR600_NS 12-06-2003, 05:25 PM My first Cat was a 78 El Tigre, so I'd like to see that name come back. I'm sorry to see the ZRT600 go, I have driven my buddies 97 plenty of times, and I just love it, there is something about that sled that really works for me.
Moto-XXX 12-06-2003, 05:56 PM I would totally love for them to still get the older 440 Prowlers and the Wildcats and that on the go. They were the bad a$$es when I first started getting into snowmobiling
BILLCAT 12-06-2003, 08:02 PM they should bring back all the triples especially the zrt 600, but when they bring back the zrt 600, they should put v force reeds, d&d pipes, cylinder head shim kit, and one hell of a clutch kit in it because its all about the baby triples
phat_cat800 12-06-2003, 09:20 PM Looks like the majority of people wish the triples were still around. I though the T-cat would be ahead but it seems that the zert has a spot in many peoples hearts. Gotta love the sound of a triple.
puree 12-07-2003, 01:16 AM ditto,,,,I figured the tcat would double everything else,,,,,I was WRONG
FeelTheThunder 12-07-2003, 09:42 AM I also like the old names but I could not choose between Wildcat & El Tigre so I went with the Thundercat. You just can't beat the smoothness or the sound of a triple triple
bdusted440 12-07-2003, 11:19 AM :p After riding wildcats and zr's I bought my first ZRT 600. I'll never ride anything else if I can help it !!!!! w00t
Buddy of Jawz 12-01-2005, 04:50 PM I thought the BIG Kitty would be a no brainer. :bash:
polariskid 12-01-2005, 05:25 PM i just want them to bring back the zr3 chassy back i still dont like the way the fcats look
WishIwasriding 12-01-2005, 06:31 PM Look at item # 4593288458 on ebay and you will all wish you had kept your old eltigres
phazerhater 12-01-2005, 07:14 PM Look at item # 4593288458 on ebay and you will all wish you had kept your old eltigres
[/b]
WOW! That thing is in amazingly good shape!
NewfieBullet 12-01-2005, 08:42 PM I voted for the Wildcat. The poll is missing the Prowler though. That's the sled that made me fall in love with snowmobiles.
BASKTKS98 12-02-2005, 09:49 PM I like my 98 ZRT 800 Nothing like grabin' a handfull of HP and liftin' the skis at 80MPH
wildcat_wonder 12-03-2005, 05:31 PM I also voted for the Wildcat. I own an '88 Wildcat 650, and the thing is a blast. My brother owns a '95 Wildcat 700 EFI, a big, powerful machine, but the thing is one heavy SOB. 560 lbs. dry versus 482 lbs. in my '88. The thing weighed more than most triples, a big downside to the last generation Wildcats.
I see many voted for the ZRT's. What is it about the triples that everyone loves so much? I need to hear some good stuff because I am so biased against them.
BASKTKS98 12-03-2005, 09:34 PM Ya the ZRT's are big but what can you say about the big cube's and the HP. They are just like a classic old car they just keep gettin' better with time. Like i said before nothing like grabin' a hand full of throttle and lifting the skis at 80 or 90 or 100 . HP is great.
I'v rode my buddies F7 and ya it rips. Put a big F8 or F9 kit and it might be the same HP arm rippin stump pullin power.
puree 12-04-2005, 02:18 AM I forgot all about the prowler also. I had a 90 and it was my first cat,,,, now its nothing but cat for me,,,,
MadCat88 12-04-2005, 05:50 PM I am with you Riverracer!! nice handle BTW... i voted zrt as in 800. i wish cat had done more R&D on the motor while they had it... but the first thing i thought of was an 1981 el tigre' 5000 the big, ( at that time) free air twin... i have always wanted one :whatever:
[/b]
i have an 88 el tigre 6000 and iwas thinking of getting a new sled instead i just went right through this sled because iove how it rides.............its just a solid sled that should have never gone out of production
MadCat88 12-04-2005, 06:15 PM alrighty next to the el tigre i would bring back the 1976-1979 (around there) TXL 340 this sled couldnt turn for its life but let me tell you this would pull itself up on one ski when you pinned it. also this was the first production liquid sled. for a 340 this sled went liek a mother fu%^er
MadCat88 12-04-2005, 06:45 PM alrighty next to the el tigre i would bring back the 1976-1979 (around there) TXL 340 this sled couldnt turn for its life but let me tell you this would pull itself up on one ski when you pinned it. also this was the first production liquid sled. for a 340 this sled went liek a mother fu%^er

alrighty sorry bout that didnt read the title of the thread i didnt think it was all cats cause i never looked at the poll :bash:
but the txl 340 was a mean machine
Yamahammer 12-07-2005, 10:29 PM ZRT 600!!
As a kid, my freinds dad had one with stingers and orange skis, and all I can remember is just being scared from the sound of it!, it was great!. Now that im older, it is sadly missed, and it was wicked fast!!!
MUSKOKA800 12-08-2005, 10:32 AM Other:
2002 ZR800CCE carb
They're becoming in short supply in the used market. ZR Sled Head is using them all up. LOL
ZR Sled Head 12-08-2005, 05:22 PM I've already owned a green one (8000 or so miles) and currently have a black one (almost 12,000 miles), out on the hunt tomorrow looking at another green one with only 1,000 miles on it. If it works out / I buy it I'll be covered for another couple of seasons.</span> I always think it a shame when I hear them referred too as "old tech" or something as such, when they look current / ride, handle extrememly well and still manage fuel and power numbers much of the competition has yet to figure out.
slickster 12-29-2005, 12:24 AM I think the El'Tigre name is missing. That used to a feared name for the other brands. It was AC's symbol of power for years. The Tigre would come at you from nowhere and then just vanish. My 2cents.
Overandout
obeeone 02-15-2006, 08:14 PM Im only 13 but i think i heard of a new lynx but my first sled was a 79 283 we put a 340 in it man it was sweet but yah since ive now got a 1998 mxz but yah if they have a lynx sorry bout writing this but yah if there is a new lynx does someone wanna let me kno
550boy 02-17-2006, 06:32 PM YOU GUYS ARE FORGETTING ABOUT THE LEGENDARY CHEETAH MY FIRST SLED WHEN I WAS 8-9 STILL HAVE IT NOW TO THE THING KICKS ### THE LITTLE 340 WHAT BEAST!!!!!
raceguy 02-18-2006, 01:19 PM I always thought the "El' Tigre" name sounded like real business....
I had a '73 El' Tigre 400, looked mean, and man would that thing rip!
(wish I still had the ol' girl!) :bash:
rivet 02-19-2006, 02:13 PM 93 Tcat. Perhaps the quickest and fastest production sled
96ZRT600 XXX 02-23-2006, 02:02 PM Do I need to say what I voted for?
The triple (bang bangs) ZRT!!!!! SWRules
snowtrax backshift 03-01-2006, 07:13 AM Everyone forgot.................F7, 2006 last year for that baby.
Thumbdoctor 03-05-2006, 04:48 PM El Tigre 5000
rkrawczy 03-08-2006, 08:19 PM That 1000 Tripple rocked  , miss that in the thundercats and mountaincats. They rocked. they were smooth and had power up the wazoo. :hallo1:
definitely the T-CAT and FIRECATS---------the fastest and the quickest :inlove:
hosehead 10-25-2006, 10:35 AM I'm partial to this one :inlove:
BigPoppa05 10-25-2006, 04:26 PM i liked to late modle (98) triple EXT 600. rode well and had the power of a ZRT but a smooth cushon ride
ZRT Sled Head 11-05-2006, 09:41 PM They should have kept the Thundercat name with the new 1000.
I also think they should have came out with tyhe name Tom Cat
macius 11-23-2006, 05:18 PM i had a '79 El Tigre 5000 that I just gave to my brother. The thing runs great. If normal maintenance has been done on them. they run for a long time.
4winds 12-09-2006, 04:36 PM zrts
*[honda]* 12-10-2006, 05:45 PM I think all the names need to come back. The Jag, Cougar, El Tigre, Thundercat, Boss Cat, Prowler, Puma, Lynx, Kitty Cat. Yah i member the 550 ext el tigre haha i just got in from ridin mine. Wish i could get a modern version with EFI and electric start maybe even reverse  haha livin in the old days when it comes to sleddin
tkzrt 12-28-2006, 09:15 PM I'd like to see a lay down triple 600 or better yet 700. Riding the f7, I miss the bark of the triple.
8vo fan 12-28-2006, 10:53 PM I always thought the "El' Tigre" name sounded like real business....
I had a '73 El' Tigre 400, looked mean, and man would that thing rip!
(wish I still had the ol' girl!) :bash:[/b]
I still have mine!
I too think they should bring back the names and drop the letters.
Mike_G 01-07-2007, 09:12 AM I went with my current ride ZRT 600. There Is somthing to be said about the old names though.
My first sled a 72 340 Puma was a tough little machine. I loved it, every 2 weeks or so I would start it in the off season so it would be ready to go. I broke skis, spindle, blew headgasket but nothing seemed to be an Issue
The 89 Cougar was just as tough... Black and Green & Old Names Keep the legend of Cats MEAN !
Hayastusa 01-07-2007, 08:51 PM Maybe the El Tigre was one of those love/hate sleds. You loved it until you owned one then you hated it. w00t I used to drool over my uncles when I was a kid. That and his TnT 440...first time I ever saw reverse on a sled. But this is an Arctic Cat forum so scratch that last one.
rmuzik 01-18-2007, 02:52 AM For the deep stuff in Co, I would still take a moded King Cat over the M1000 stock, not for the power but for the handling of the old school frame.
team wisz 01-29-2007, 07:20 PM well we are not ones for big power(my wife and i).but i must say before today i was a die hard polaris guy and my wife to.we have a local dealer here so we went snooping today.we fell totaly in love with a pair of sabercats.1 is a 600 and the other is a 700.i think we are going back tomorrow to buy them.we decided this weekend its time to upgrade.both of these sleds are 05's,with hardly any miles on them.WE ARE SOLD ON THEM
WilyB 01-29-2007, 07:50 PM I wish they came back with the old names... especially the El Tigre....in it's day that was quite the sled... 500 free air on a cold night..... Woohoo!!!!
late 70's jag 3000 was nimble light and a thrill to drive....remember when you could tip a sled over on it's side to clear the slush from the track?
Don't get me wrong, suspension sleds are the bomb, but let me tell you, sledding in the 70's and eighty,s was a blast...
Downriver Thunder 01-30-2007, 12:37 PM I agree, they need to bring back the old names. Seems everyone has the letters anymore and it's just boring. The names had class.
PowderBoy 02-23-2007, 04:32 AM I would like to see them badge one WILDCAT again, i thought that was a bada$$ name
idooski 02-23-2007, 08:33 AM I miss my old 399 Puma. What a great ice fishing machine! Almost as good as the Evinrude I had with the flip up seat.
wilcof7 07-19-2007, 05:35 AM 1977 Sno pro Cat Great sled.
dasledhed 07-19-2007, 09:27 AM The older ZR700 with the twin pipes was cool.
m7sledgirl 08-27-2007, 10:52 PM My Dad had a Lynx WAY back.
Personally, I wish they kept the M7, and tweaked a couple things. The M8 weighs more, the M6 isn't enough.
96440 12-14-2007, 08:58 PM I really like the smaller zr's and 440's and of course the ZRT"s. I wish they would have kept the Pantera name also, it's been around for a long time. :christmas:
MaineSled 12-16-2007, 02:42 PM Don't get me wrong, suspension sleds are the bomb, but let me tell you, sledding in the 70's and eighty,s was a blast...[/b]
70's & 80's - LOL - I agree they were a blast but I think it was more due to young, dumb&full o fun-cuz sleds sure came a long way in a relatively short time , I vote later year zrt/t-cat - otherwise I'd say late 80's 650 indy  you gotta love the sound of the trippple's winding out. I too wish they stayed with the animal names it gave them a personality, plus it was easier to give the "ole girl" a name lol. Go Cat :hallo1:
wickedfast340 12-16-2007, 09:41 PM Cheetah 340 Hell Ya
triplethunder 01-04-2008, 07:19 PM if, i say if only the manufactures could hear our triple loving crying hearts :bash:
way back in the mid 70's when i was all of 12 and 100 pounds. riding those late 60's early 70's one lunger hirths, fuji's, rockwell's, ect. along with wrenches, spare bolts and parts in your pockets. warp speed was 50-60, and man did it bring wind blown tears to your eye's at those speeds. my 30 something neighbor came home with a brand new a/c king cat triple. his very frist sled i mite add.
the first time i heard that sled fire up, it was like falling in love with a playmate. that first ride tought me the real definition of warp speed and a weak grip. i sure don't miss those leafspring front ends at 90+mph though, but sure was fun roostin the rich kids on their rupp and yammy 440's. ahh the good old days of fogged up bubble shield helmets and a chest full of carb back spit.
an xcr6, rxl, zrt6 and three t-cats later, you could say i have a fondness for the big triples
four strokes pfffttt!!!! spare me....................
boss hoss 01-11-2008, 09:10 PM I think all the names need to come back. The Jag, Cougar, El Tigre, Thundercat, Boss Cat, Prowler, Puma, Lynx, Kitty Cat. WELL SAID BROTHER.
AMEN.
WilyB 01-11-2008, 09:40 PM Wow... this string is still going!
Hellcat is a great name ... but my fave will always be El tigre.... boy when the 5000 and 6000 series were made, it was like having the Harley of sleds... EXT was another good one...
