i have asked 2 times now with little response from anyone.why my buddys 809 runs fat now after the race logic port job and what should be done and who has any advice????its a 2000 mach z with all stock stuff except the port job and .020 off the head.ran good before port job now loads up and runs rich idles 2000 one minute then 1300 the next the carbs are clean and chokes are not sticking just don't know what to do have started it like 20-30 times but not ridden it or cleaned it out except for reving it up on the stand it wont go above 700 on egt is it maybe loaded up??? and i need to ride it to get engine up to temp to burn botttom end out?its plugs come out black but not wet just black.why was a chunk cut out of the bottom of the cylinder with this kit???what does it do????any help would be appreciated.it ran 100% fine until port job oh by the way i had sno stuff rumble pack tips on it until we did the port job now i put stock exhaust can back on too any ideas???oil injection is set a little on the lean side everthing was fine until the can and port job i just don't know what to do for him???

Yes you need to do a run before you can diagnose. Running on the stand is not sufficient.
Are you 100% sure about the oil pump adjustment? If the oil pump is set correct and you have not jetted up I think after reading your description of the dry black piston crown you might possibly be lean because of a rich oil mixture. But I really don't have enough info. Are the plugs new? If you took .020" off the head without adding thickness to the base gasket, your squish is going to be too tight. I'm not familiar with how the Race Logic templates are timed. Did you do the porting? I'm assuming the piston crowns were clean at rebuild? Could be you need to increase the pilot size a little, too. Since the piston is dry, I don't think you are rich. It could be black because of the numerous starts with the choke and never getting it cleaned out with a high speed run.
I think you need to make a run with it before you try to diagnose further. Be careful in case it is too lean. Does Race Logic say anything about jetting?
What part has been removed from the cylinder? Is it the part at the bottom of the cylinder at the intake port? If so, that has been done to increase the intake area.

what do you mean to tight i took .020 off the head and yes i used a 3 mil base gasket the thin one i thought it would increase my compressin since the port timing was raised by the port changes and also yes they are new plugs and yes the oil pump is in fact a little on the lean side i set it myself.i thought porting a engine made it lean???bill cudney says it makes it rich am i wrong to think that??race logic says they don't say anything about jetting thats up to the customer. i don't know what else to do what will not enough squish hurt??? how can i tell it did smoke like hell to when i fired it up too.the egt does not climb thats why i think rich ness also it left a black puddle under my sled out the exhaust.should i turn my air screws in and try that????i wish i had a baseline to go with you know like what otheres has did with there 809 if they used this kit.i guess race logic told my buddy to knock .010 off the head so ithought .020 would be a tad better.i put the new plugs in and yes i did not ride it just ran it on the stand it blackened them right up
so what i need to know is did it make it rich or lean from a port job and i did it myself and followed there reccomendations to a tee

I cant give you any info on the port job but I can give you some info that happened to me last year. The oil pump on my 2000 809 took a dump for no apparent reason. It went rich [thank God] and no amount of adjustment helped.
It used 1 0z. per mile and everything was black and nasty including the black oily crap on the floor you described. Just an idea.
P.S. to change out the pump is not an easy job but can be done in the chassi + the pump is over $200.00. Could'nt imajine what labor would be to do that job!

I used the sport port kit on my 809 and i did not make any mods to the head or base gasket. I put the sled together to factory specs with the exception of the porting of course. Right now i am experiencing a rich condition but i jumped the jets up 2 sizes from where i was running it. I went from 290's to stock 310's. It is running rich but it is fast as hell and i mean screaming. Better rich than lean for breakin anyway.
As far as race logic they do tell you to go up 2 sizes in jet and at the most take .010 off the head. The sled allready runs a high compression anyway. Stock you have to use 91 octane fuel. .020 off the head i think might be alittle overkill and well you may need to be running race gas for the sled to run right.
The way i look at the race logic kit is to just wake up the sled alittle bit. This is not race porting here. That is why i did everything to factory spec. I want the reliability but alittle more power too. Presonally i would look for a stock head and try that out.

Mine runs 140-142 psi stock. 4500 miles.
Stock compression with an accurate gauge on an 809 will be around 135-140 psi. There are like 3 different base gaskets so compression depends on which one is in your sled.
