: Wheelies
BnBElim 12-11-2003, 03:22 PM i have a '99 mxz 600 wiht some mods...clutch kit, v-force reeds, MBRP race silencer, 144 studs, and my heads are shaved. i have the sc-10 II suspension and i can barely get my skis off the ground. I would like to know how to get my front end up. thanks
Its all about suspension set up. Just keep changing till you find a set up that lifts the skis and rides well.
1350CFM 12-11-2003, 03:34 PM When crossing roads to save my carbides on my sorry, sad, tired, old 1988Polaris Indy Trail 488 I would kneel on the seat and give a tug on the bars while flooring it. I could easily carry the ski's across a 4 lane road. Are you wanting to do wheelies for any particular purpose? Or just cuz it's fun
fennsz 12-11-2003, 03:40 PM It's all about the suspension set up and a little tug on the bars when you put it to the bars helps too along with leaning back. That sled should easily do it though. My MXZ 500 does no problem.
formulaIII8 12-11-2003, 03:40 PM Good luck trying to do wheelies with a coupled suspension. The SC 10 is the wheelie monster.
You can lengthen your limiter strap and that will help abit i think.
Mikadoo 12-11-2003, 05:04 PM Cant win any races with your front end 2' off the ground. :dazed:
2-3" is all you need for good weight transfer.
SLeD_nEcK 12-11-2003, 05:10 PM When I'm on my dad's ZR 800, in about 0.5' of snow, I stand up and put my feet as far back as possible on the runners and floor it. I get the front end up almost 1 foot. Very fun!!!! :D w00t
mxzjunky 12-11-2003, 05:39 PM Like king said loosen up your limiter straps as far as they can go. Should lift the skiies then.
zr580cat 12-11-2003, 05:39 PM My ZR580 can do some seeerious wheelies. I think it's all suspension set up & traction. Last year, in sticky snow, I brought it up so far, I was almost standing straight up! It's fun, except when I punch it going around a corner, NO STEERING!!! Like KING says, find a set up that lifts the skis and rides well.
Zak250R 12-11-2003, 05:42 PM Whats the best sled you guys have rode for doing wheelies?

My dad has a 93 Indy 500 Classic. I ride it once in a while & can do wheelies all day on it. It's studded and really light. If I put my feet to the back & lift when I punch it, it seems to go forever with the skis off the ground.

Best I've seen is Thundercat.
CRaZyDRyWaLLgUy 12-11-2003, 06:16 PM If your suspention is anything like mine (02 zr 800) just pull out the coupling blocks and you can get some good wheelies then.
BnBElim 12-11-2003, 06:47 PM Thanks for the info, now for the real part. How do i adjust the limiter straps or take out the coupling blocks? Just recently started working on my own sled. Becoming pretty good at it too due to you guys' info. Thanks

is your sled studded???
thats a good way to tear out your studs if it is.

I doubt a studded sled of 144 or better properly studed would be able to hold up the ski's while crossing bare concrete. The studs cannot dig into comcrete eno0ugh and will just wear down and scar the concrete. Ice on the otherhand would be a good place to start.
We used to hold wheelies on our 440 Exciters non studded with no clutch work and stock suspension. Weight transfer is the key. Sit back and yank the bar toward you. 6 inches was normal for us but then again we did not have the torque that the new sleds have.
Chris
1350CFM 12-11-2003, 07:32 PM Studded? Well I guess technically you could say it is studded. It was studded back in 1988 about 6,000 miles ago. They are little more than nubs now  The track is basically a smooth rubber belt
FuzzButt 12-11-2003, 07:38 PM I bet it is. 6K on a set of studs is a bunch.
You leaving rubber marks on the ground yet?
Time for a new track and a new set of woody's
C-Dog 12-11-2003, 08:07 PM I didn't think that a 99 had coupling blocks?
Or am I wrong? :sleepy:
mxzwfo 12-11-2003, 08:25 PM Chassis set-up, traction and Horsepower...
98mxz583 12-11-2003, 08:31 PM On mine i cranked the ACM up and hook my feet in the rear bumper then punch it. I had so pretty good wheelies that way.
1350CFM 12-11-2003, 08:35 PM The sled still runs fine, But with it's age it's not worth putting any more money into. I got a free set of ski's and a slightly bent trailing arm today. I'll keep duct tapin' her together till she dies. Then I'll part her out and E bay the pieces and bury what's left  I am picking up a new(used) sled next week. The ol' Polaris will become the rented mule for all my sledless friends and neighbor kids to ride. I paid $300.00 with a brand new cover for it 4 years ago and haven't put a dollar into it. It's been a good machine.

A ZR 800 with a 925 kit, 144 woodies studs in a snopro track with all the work done in my profile. Having the heavy springs in the clutch helps big time too. My sled engages at like 4800, and lifting the skiis is NO PROBLEM, even downhill
slednecker 12-11-2003, 10:45 PM you obviosly havent hit the pavment going fast fuzzbutt. i did last year and so did my friend and i ripped out 3 studs and he ripped out 2. if you hit the pavment at a good speed 9times out of 10 youll lose a stud or more.
atleast with my sled and a couple of my friends sleds.
but thats just me....... :whatever:
The best sled. My brothers Mach did wicked wheelies.
But my friends Formula 583 stands it up no problem and stays up for awhile. Its pretty cool.
puree 12-12-2003, 02:38 AM I need to tighten the strap down a bit, add some studs,,,,,I am tired of doing wheelies when I want to s*** and get!!!,,,,,
kowalcs 12-12-2003, 07:15 AM 2000 ZL600 EFI
FuzzButt 12-12-2003, 11:20 AM I try to keep it on the snow as much as I can. I got tired of buying $60 wearbars. If I run across pavement like at a gas station we aren't going to fast.
Besides my new sled has no studs and I don't know if I am even going to stud it in the future. Maybe a new track but not studs.
fennsz 12-12-2003, 11:55 AM My brothers '91 Indy 500, he has modded the engine a lot. Very fast That thing will flip right over if you don't let off the throttle. Very good for ski stances.

Mid 90's zr440...this guy I know used to have this sled and could put the front end right up in the air and ride wheelies...was pretty cool to watch
Dynamo^Joe 12-12-2003, 12:58 PM wheeeeeeeelies.....
this was with limiter strap out a few holes...

slednecker 12-12-2003, 02:15 PM yah i didntthink itwas a road but yah it was lol
i dunno i find that my studs grab alot on the pavement as well even when im going slow it sucks!!!
studs are a good investment but a hassel sometimes
dave583 12-12-2003, 02:20 PM Wheelies are fun but you dont want to leave that set up for riding trails, trust me.
