I just heard a rumor that Kalkaska has 18" of snow. Is this true because threr doesn't seem to be to much snow anywhere else in the lower peninsula? Any info would be welcome.

There is about that much at the trail head by Dingman's on 72, but it is short lived. I rode from there up to Starvation lake and then over towards Mancelona, but the snow got thin from there. Your only looking at about 50 miles of trail with marginal snow on it.
