Hey all,
last year i got a little friendly with a tree on my skidoo, and smashed the right side trailing arm. i got a new arm, but i can not get decals for it. i thought that some flames would look really good painted on both of them, since right now it has mis-matched traling arms.
question is, how do i go about painting them on there? i want to do them in purple... since thats kind of the color scheme of the sled. if anyone has any suggestions on how i can do this (i am going for easy and cheep... not going to take them to a paint shop or anything)?

thanks guys!

Fast and Cheap? Go to AutoZone or one of the autoparts stores and look in the "Ricer" accesories aisles. I bet they have some flame stickers that the young kids put on their Honda Accords to sport them up along with the coffee can tail pipes.

If I were going to paint them on....You can get some pinstiping tape at any autobody supply store and do your own design. Mask off the rest of the control arm/hood and spray it with the accent color. Even a rattle can paint should work fine. Some good colors can be found in the "auto touch-up rack". Be sure and have the piece warm and scuff it with some fine sand paper or a Scotch Brite pad them wipe it down with a clean lint free cloth and paint thinner/laquer thinner or even ether works. Let it dry for a few minutes and shoot it with one light coat to get a base then add mulitple coats of paint. Try to get the final coat as heavy as you can without running the paint for a good gloss.

Thats what i was thinking... but do you know where i can get a patern to copy for the flames? i don't have much of an artistic touch... i was thinking of clear coating over the whole arm to make sure it doesn't chip off either. and dont' worry, despite me being 18, i am not into hondas and the cheep crap that goes with them.
any other suggestoins would be apreciated

Hey I see your restoring a 65' Stang....Ya can't be all bad :D I would try to find something online in one of the many 'CLIPART" programs. Or perhaps a library book about custom paint jobs? I'm no Rembrandt either, But I bet if you traced out the side of your control arm onto a piece of paper you could scetch out a design you would be happy with.

I would find some flames that you like & practice on paper. Once you get it, cut out the pattern that you want & trace around it on the sled. Then do what Formula III 600 says.

With a little practice, you'll find that flames aren't that hard to do. My 8 year old son has been drawing flames for a few months now and they look awesome! Mom doesn't like it, as he draws them every day on his school work!

Be sure to post some pics when done.

get something to practice with, get some fine tape from a body shop supply store and go nuts...try different colours, designs and stuff....another option would be to check out a local sign or graphics store, that does striping and stuff for cars and such...they should easily be able to make you a decal up, either stock or flames... we have a shop in town that can duplicate anything you bring a picture of...so taking your other arm there and you could get a duplicate...

...what kinda sled??

we can see that as your signature says you are restoring a '65 Stang, not an '89 Civic :D

P>S. I think the stickers would work well. Just my opinion.

for flames just go to a polaris dealer or even buy a 2004 polaris.
