well guys and gals....i mannaged to get some good riding time in on my f6 std yesturday. I put on 112 miles in total. and i was very impressed. The only thing i didnt like was this terrible whinning noise at about 6500 rpm but besides that i have no complaints. I never got into any real hard ruff stuff, i'll save that for when the sled is broke in a bit but i did hit some good bumps later in the day when the trials got a little chewed up. The chassis was flawless. With the 6 " bar riser i could stand all day long and my back never got tired. It was great. I couldnt believe how well the sled reacted to my body position. I only wiegh 155 pds so getting a sled to react is sometimes hard. I have finally found a sled that i can control with some body english. Other sleds like my ZR 800 i really had a hard time, they seem to go where they wanted to go and i would have a hard time using what wieght i have to control them. It was just so much easier with the firecat. The X country girp plates from AC that i added along the running boards worked so good, i always had good traction for my feet and i wasnt scared of them slipping when riding hard on the running boards. I bought my sled with the 1" lug track on it which i soon changed to 1.375". Probably the best thing i ever done. Half of my riding yesturday was breaking my own trial in anywhere between 1-2 feet of fresh snow. the snow was heavey so it had somewhat of a bottom to it which also helped. While riding out a trial i had to venture down a steep ridge whith some nasty drifts in it. No problem going down but i knew i was gonna have to ride good and hard to get back up the ridge. Just to add a bit more fun, there was a nice 90 degree corner at the bottom of the ridge so there wasnt much room for getting good momentum. I have to admit i was a bit nervous still getting used to the sled and being alone i really didnt want to get stuck. Or i was screwed. But with some hard riding the 1.375 track went up the ridge with ease. I was very surprised at how well it performed in the deep snow.
My oil light started flickering at about 110 miles, my machine now has 126 miles on it and its pretty much staying on all time now.
Now here comes the good part......while i was out i found a 2001 zr 800 clutched and piped. I have yet to put a wrench on my clutch so i am bone stock out of the box. We raced and out of the hole he was getting a couple leagnths on me but without studs i was just spining on the ice under about 4 " of packed snow and he was hooking up because of his studs. ( my studs should be in this week finally) But once i got going we were even, he could not pull me on top end. we were also out on some nice long wide open woods roads, even there the zr 800 with pipes couldnt get away from my little 600. At the time i had only put on maybe 50 miles on my sled.
So there you have it, my impression of the early build f6. 2 thumps, 8 fingers and 10 toes up on this sled.
