We are in need of a second 2-Up sled as both our kids will be riding along with us this year. My youngest is 2 and my oldest is 6. My wife is against trading in her 1999 Phazer for a 2 Up. She wants to keep her Phazer for when she rides solo and get a second 2 Up for when she rides with one of the kids. She thinks because I have 2 sleds (Yamaha 600SX and Ski Doo Touring Fan) she should be able to have 2. Unlike most of you guys, I hate the preseason and post season maintenance ritual along with whatever needs to be done during the season. As such, I am against adding another sled into the mix and I am trying to come to a compromise. I could probably sell her on a REV 500SS with the 1+1 seat. That way, when she rides solo, I can take the buddy seat off. My question is has anyone used one of these seats with a 6 year old? How stable are they and how warm are they? The seat looks like it is just snapped on. It also looks like it does not offer sufficient support to help hold a child in place. I personally think it is time for her Phazer to go...its been bashed, smashed and abused for 5 seasons now and has quite a few battle scars.
I have a 2004 Renegade with the 1+1 seat and had a 2003 MXZ Rev 800 X with the same seat last year. I have a 4 year old grandson and a 7 year old granddaughter. I only let the 7 year old ride on the 1+1 seat. She did just fine. You might find it better if she holds on the driver instead of the handles that are on the seat. Don't do any jumps or the passenger will end up on your back. My wife rides on the seat quite often and says it rides really good. By the way the Rev really rides and handles great with a passenger on it.......I was pleasantly surprised! I will attach a picture of my Renegade with the seat.

I have an 03 Rev with the 2 up seat and I absolutely love it....I have three children (a daughter that is 17, and two boys 15 and 10)....all three have had a turn in the seat and say the ride is comfortable. The handling of the Rev will get worse as you put more weight in the back but I'm sure you could adjust the suspension to compensate for the additional weight (on long rides where I'm riding double, I will make adjustments).
The real benefit is it takes all of about 30 seconds to switch the seat on or off so you really do get the best of both worlds....I was able to justify the Rev with the 2 up seat and if you really think about it, it's really the best option (I would love a 4th sled but I'd then have to get a different trailer and more storage space so the dollars really start to add up).
The down side is the rider in the back does get colder on the Rev then on a conventional 2 up sled.
Good luck....

I had thought about buying the 2-up seat, but after riding double without it I could not justify the price. I have a 500ss and I don't feel that cramped riding double.

I am running a 2004 GSX 600 sdi with the 1 + 1 seat and love it. I have a 14 year old son that rides with me about 75% of the time and he likes it. He also likes being able to see past me with the way the seat is set higher that the driver. I have also rode on the 1 + 1 seat with him driving and the set up is quite nice. :christmas:
