I'm 'dooing a little repair for a co-worker on a Polaris clutch. I've chased the threads on the spider w/ a 1 1/4-12 tap & everything looks OK. But when I try to thread the spider onto the Inner half, it will only go about halfway then start to bind. The threads on the inner half look good. Does the spider thread down to the bottom of the treads or not. I checked the steel & it's hardened, so I can't chase it w/ a thread chaser.

Any ideas?

The spider definitely threads all the way to the bottom. Usually there's a washer or two under the spider to adjust the belt clearance though.

Something definitely sounds wrong. Mine all just spin easily all the way down (sometimes the spider is hard to get off though).

Try to add a little heat w/ a torch. Those things are loctited on. May still have some on it. (Thanx Mike!!!)
