Thought I would post this so noone else goes through what I did today!!!
Last night working on the sleds in the garage.
Had to change the battery on my girlfriends sled 98 Touring SLE. A real pain to get at.
Took the battery out and left the air box off and closed the hood.
Came downstairs this morning and could smell gas.
Opened the door to go into the garage. The smell of gas was overwhelming.
A huge wet spot under her sled.
Quickly opened the garage and opened her hood. The air box must have slipped and it fell onto the gas line out of the tank and ripped a hole into it. half a tank of fuel had leaked out onto the floor.
Anyway got it cleaned up and after 4 hours with all of the windows open in the house got it aired out.
No fuel shut off on the sled at all, I thought there would be.
ANyways please remember to put things back and double check.
I learned my lesson!!!!
Fewwww Merry Christmas all!!! Glad I still have my house!

Doo yourself a favor when you put the battery in put 12 gauge wires to battery posts with terminal ends and a 50 amp charger plug , then you can hook up a battery maintainer or have a good place to jump it . I couldn't even pull start mine when battery was dead . I feel for you, that battery job is the worst you can' even get your fingers on it to get the screws back on . top that off with your gas problem !!! :cussing:

Had a similar (except dumber..) experience. I was draining the old gas out of my old ZRT using a siphon. I had a big white drum (5 gallon, I think) it was draining into. Me and my buddy were hungry, so we ran out for a bite while it drained. Came back, the drum was completely full, as was the garage floor. I never would have thought I'd had more than 5 gallons in there!!

The real stupidity came into play after we got back, and were working on the machine and enjoying a few beverages. It got cold and decided to light the kerosene stove. Neither one of us thought that this just might be a hazard - could have been the beers or the gas fumes at work. Luckily, I am here today to talk about it (we put out the stove after a few minutes - realizing that it was maybe a bad idea)...

Sorry for getting off topic. :withstupid:

Scary thing is, that's a true story. So much for all that education....
