I finally got myself a Garmin Etrex Legend for X-mas. Now I need to find out what Mapsource Software version I should get. I live in Wisconsin, and do all my riding in WI, and U.P. MI. Eventually I'm going to mount it to the sled somehow, but for now I'll put it in my coat.

I want to be able to ride places making tracks with the gps, go home download the tracks to the computer and print out a map, mark points and so on, and recieve maps from friends to download from the computer to the gps.

Any thoughts and suggestions???
THANKS and MERRY CHRISTMAS :christmas:

Either the TOPO or Roads & Rec CDs will work well. I have both and usually end up just using the R&R maps for sledding. The TOPO doesn't really have any trails in MI, there are some 2-tracks but not a ton. The TOPO has all of the roads that R&R does but most are only labeled "Road". At least with R&R you can see what road you are crossing. Both will let you save waypoints and tracks and do the transferring you want.

Ozi Explorer works well with both my Etrex and Rino. I have electronic copies of the 1:250,000 topo maps of northern Alberta and the NWT.

I also got a Etrex Legend for x-mas yesterday. I went to the local Bass Pro Shop this morning and bought a RAM mount RAM Part # RAM-B-138-GA5 to attach directly above my guages (see pic below) I used industrial velcro ( the hard plastic kind) and attached the RAM base. The whole kit is $30.00 at Bass Pro and is by far the best mounting solution. I also have a Streetpilot 3 and use a RAM mount in my truck.

While at Bass Pro I was asking about What software to use and the guy I was talking with suggested Points of Interest or R&R. Check the garmin website under cartography and you can actually look at what the software has online. I am headed to Canada this winter and was disappointed that there is no mapping software for canada except for large cities.

Anyone know if there is a site that we can share tracks on? I have yet to fond any downloadable snowmobile trail maps. If we could share, it probably would not take very long to have most of the countries trails maped.

I bought a eTrex Legend for the support for multiple tracks and GPSMapper. Be sure save your tracks each trip/ride. I went to the UP Dec 21-23 and had a blast! I have tracks for the trails around Lake Gogebic to Bruce Crossing to Silver City and Porcupine Mountains. Using GPSMapper you can create your own base map by importing your tracks and saving them as Objects (trails/roads). I would like to share tracks and create a complete base map for the UP. With GPSMapperyou can also import a calibrated map and trace the trails but the imported/scanned map has to be very accurate and I found that the trails in UP can vary greatly compared to the offical map and this did not work well for the UP. However true Tracks turned into map objects would work great.
