I am running the NGK BR9ECS plugs in my '02 MxZ 800. It is suppose to take the .018 gap plugs. How do I explain to the dealer which ones are the .018 gap plugs? I had to open up a few and check them with a feeler gauge. Most of them were .031 gap, but we did finally find a box that were .018 gap. They were BR9ECS 4771. Is the 4771 the designation for the .018 gap plugs and I can just tell them I need BR9ECS 4771's or does the 4771 mean something else? Also, I believe I was told not to regap a .031 BR9ECS is this true? I belive the reason was that the ground electrode could break off  Is this why you have to buy the pregapped .018 BR9ECS's? One last question - What would happen if I ran the .031 gap? Would it hurt anything? Thank you all for your time.

I'm pretty sure you are right about the #. I know you are not supposed to regap them. My question is, shouldn't your dealer be able to answer these questions?

You have to set your spark plug gap to manufacture's spec.

The BR9ECS's come pre gapped. My dealer told me not to touch them.

I personally would chuck those NGK's and get denso's. My 99 Mach ate plugs hand over fist and the dealer couldn't find a reason. I switched to Denso and never fouled another plug again.

I had to bring this back to the top. Someone please help! I went to a totally different dealer and they argued with me that the BR9ES plug is suppose to be in an 02 MxZ 800 gapped at .018" and not BR9ECS's. They said that the BR9ECS is for the Rev's only. I have a service bulletin from a CD ROM I have and It says they now use BR9ECS at .018" gap. What needs to be done to make these dealers know what is going on??????????????? :cussing:

The BR9ECS first came out for Ski-Doo's in 01 as part of that recall done on the 800's (pistons, coolent tank, BR9ECS plugs) Too answer you question, yes your 02 MXZ should run and did come stock with BR9ECS plugs gapped at .018-.020. I have had a lot of people tell me to run the BR9EYA's which I am going to try here in the near future.

I went to the dealer to get BR9ECS gapped at .031....I thought the PN was 4677. The dealer gave me 4771 that were gapped at .018....but here's the kicker he took them into the shop and gapped them to .031???? The SD manual says not to gap these plugs...he said it was no problem. WHAT IS GOING ON HERE????
