I was at some hillclimb/drags back in 99 with my stock 97 MXZ 670(DNE muffler).Unfortunatly for me there was a very limited build 1999 MXZ 700 there and he stold first place from me in the 700 single pipe class and then went on to win several more classes above that.Keep in mind that this was in very mild weather and he may have had a larger profile track.I was at some drags in Coe Hill a couple of years ago and a MXZ 700 did pretty well there although we all got spanked by a very well setup Yamaha. :( An HO mxz 670 VS 700 might be a different story though.

Yeah, the 700 is definately faster, all things being equal (stock for stock).

Much better handling on the trails too, therefore faster also.

I agree, the 700 will win.

I've never had a stock 670, HO or otherwise go past me and I have 3 friends that ride them.

The 700 has a much better chassis as well.

It wasn't an srx 700 by any chance?

I had a buddy with one that was done up mega, he had upwards of $7000 aftermarket trying to lighten it up and man talk about clutch work, he spent weeks working on getting the clutched dialed to perfection. He lived about an hour south of Coe Hill. I recall he went to a drag once, blew the doors of everyone then left in a hurry as his sled was anything but stock. Just liked to win, no need for a trophy on the shelf. :D

Yes it was an SRX I believe.I think the name was something like Burnadette racing?Anyways I heard the sleds were never trail ridden just pavement dragged and snow dragged and back in the trailer.

I think the 700 was under rated, with good clutching they would easily run with the 99HO. As for the trail, the "s" chassis is not even close to "zx"chassis. I had 99ho and as fast as they were on the lake, in the trails my buddy's 2000 mxz-700 was in a different class...

Wow, you guys sure suprised me. I would have said the 670, but looks like I'm outnumbered. On the trails the ZX chassis for sure.

we had both here in 00,a 670 ho and a mxz 700.the 670 would pull the 700 from 0-75 mph, then the 700 would walk on past with authority.after clutching the 700 it easily outrun the 670 from a stop as well.

Seeing the topic on this I had to read it and then seen everyone thinking the 700 would do it. If we are talking 670HO different story. My friend had a 2000 mxz 700 black spring edition I had the 670HO. Both had 144 studs and otherwise were bone stock. On the lake I could pull away out of the hole until about 50mph and then we would stay at about 3-4 sled lengths. He used to get so mad, run after run. So he went and bought a clutch kit, not sure what brand, secretively I bought a Goodwin clutch kit. The next winter rolled around and he though he would out do me. Once again I'd pull away until about 50mph and then we were even. He wouldn't gain any or lose any on me. After 5 or so runs I had to tell him of my little goodie that I added. The 670HO was an amazing sled and I sure do miss it. As for the trails, the only time he pulled away is if it was moguls. If the trails were flat I was right with him all the way.

The reason I posted this is because I had a choice when I was in the market. This of course is between the MXZ700 and the MXZ670. The price difference was a mere $600.00 but I choosed the 97 mxz 670 because I seen them at the drags beating the 7s and some 8s MXZ in 660 feet. I also owned one and missed it dearly when I got stupid and sold it for a Grand Touring 700 SE. At that time, that was the machine to beat, I was smoking Machs, Storms, and ZRT 6s and some 8s. I am looking forward for the first ride again. This one has the A D Boivin thing in the suspenion, and 144 studs in the center belt. CAN'T HARDLY WAIT!!! I will post the race results between my other sled (Thundercat) and the MXZ 670. :D

I own two 99 HO's. In my experience, the HO is much stronger and more reliable than the 700. Again, in MY experience. I have done a few small mods to both my sleds along with clutching and gearing and never have problems beating the 7's and many 8's. The S chassis has its limitations but with a few mods they can trail close to the Zx. A wide kit and good skis make a huge difference. IMHO

I understand dooman has a super strong 700. Id like to see it run sometime but I think our distance is too great.

Happy New Year to all !!!

I am in Saskatchewan, Canada. I here yours rips pretty good.
Mine work well also. VERY quick to 80 and decent handling, for S chassis anyway.
