I know that there have been forums on breaking in new sleds. The owners manual says to run at least a pint of oil per 5 gallons of gas. I understand that you should not break in your sled with synthetic oil. My sled came from the dealer with VES which I understand to be synthetic, should I drain out the VES oil and put in the Polaris Blue?

No you dont need to drain the oil. Run 1 tank of fuel with a 50:1 ratio of the blue polaris oil. Mixing the blue type oil in the first tank will help seat the seals and rings. Uless you want to swith oil types or brands that is the only time you should drain your oil res..

ive heard that also(dont use synthetic for break in). id syphon your tank as low as possible and fill it up 2 or 3 times with blue, and also premix the gas tank, like you said. mike

i just recently bought a 2004 700 XC and it was filled with VES II. I was told to run nothing but this oil. Anything else can clog the exhaust valves and decrease performance.

Just run the thing with the oil in it. All Polaris oils are mixable. Dump a few gulps of blue if it makes you feel better. Enjoy.

My '03 700 owners manual says to break-in with one oil tank of polaris blue then switch to ves. Dealer said to keep mixing to a minimum, so use as much of that first oil tank as you can. And of course the 50:1 first gas tank. All this oil will cause the valves to gum up early. Clean at a maximum of 500 miles. They will be pretty messy. Once you switch to vesII they can go almost 1000 miles.
Your best bet is to follow the owner's manual and dealer recommendations so as not to void your engine warranty.

The major concern at break-in are seating the rings. The extra oil at this point is crucial. With that in mind, the blue Polaris oil will clog the exhaust valves prematurely. Clean accordingly. By purchasing a VES machine you accepted some elbow grease cleaning of the valves, or an expensive trip to the dealer for some simple maintenance.
