With our dirt bikes replacing the shock springs is something we usually do to match our weight. How many of you guys do your sleds? Do you find it to be a worth while modification?

I have replaced the rear susp springs on wifes' last 2 sleds.'94 mx and '98 583 dlx. She says it is better and they weren't expensive or hard to do.

I just did the front shock springs and the rear torsion springs on my 03 7c REV before this season. Rides much better and doesnt bottom out all the time.

Looking in the owner's manual for my sled (SC-10 III equipped) it says:

1) Lift the rear of the sled to fully extend the rear susp. & have the rider get on the sled. The amount the sled settles is "sag". My manual says 2 to 3 inches is desired.

2) W/ the rider on the sled, the coupling blocks should be centered between the rubber stoppers. This condition is achieved when a proper spring preload is done.

I would think that if the rider is too light or heavy for the springs & you can't get the blocks centered w/ the 4 adjustments on the spring preload, then a spring change would be indicated. You'd have to swap in lighter springs for a light rider or heavier springs for a heavier rider.

I swapped the rear springs in my '98 MXZ 500, but don't think I ever did change the springs on my '01 MXZ 600.

I run the HD springs in my gade. I bottom too much with standard one.

I just called my dealer yesterday to get new torsion springs.

I'm 210lbs and at the top of the spec for the original springs. I have a seat jack that I'm going to use to take the kids around and possibly the wife (for Christmas all I asked for was to get her out for a day to try it). The new spring set low is within my solo weight range and with her it would be med to high ( + 115lbs) so I should be good to go.

Now with my skid on medium or high the coupler is centered. With one kid on board it is dragging in the rear and the coupler is off centre.

Sure wheelies though. I took my 9 year old son (100 lbs) for a little rip on the seat jack to try it out and with the new EPI kit she really pulls.

I put heavier rear springs on my zr. At 230 lbs. it worked great.
