: Why'd Skidoo Change Their Whole Lineup To Rev?
Skidoo_800 01-02-2004, 02:53 AM I think if they still had the old zx chasis ppl would still love to buy those..I would..put the 800ho engine in that baby..
I think if they had a selection between the chasis' then more people would be buying skidoo... Not so many ppl like the rev platform..
I know its all a weight saver but u could leave the zx chasis' some of us guysthat like the regular conventional sled chasis.
oldyeller 01-02-2004, 03:29 AM Ski-doo has become the #1 sled seller in the world. There must be a whole lot of people who love the REV platform. There are a few people who don't like the ergonomics but for the most part all you hear is people saying how great they handle and ride.I also didn't really care for the looks of them but they do look much better now that they've done away with the goofy looking beaver tail mudflap. If you love the ZX chassis buy the cleanest MXZ 800 you can get your hands on and keep it.I've seen all kinds of them for sale for about half price of what they were new and they're only a couple of years old!
ViperER2 01-02-2004, 04:26 AM if any more people bought ski doo that really would be all you would see.
Yamaha and poo are not selling any sleds in 04, a local ski-doo/yammie dealer didn't sell one yammie this year (as of late nov that is)... he has them on the floor though... just sold doos.
what we really need is some competition with a REV style sled to stir things up not more people on doos!
AAJMO!
The Hossman 01-02-2004, 08:20 AM Ever looked at a ZX chassis beside a REV?? It looks like it's from the 70's. The ZX is definitely an excellent chassis, but we got to keep moving forward. Change is a good thing.
Now, it wouldn't be a bad idea for Skidoo to come up with another platform for their Legend/Touring line in something with a more conventional seating position. Because, like Skidoo 800 says, the REV isn't for everybody.
revrnd 01-02-2004, 09:04 AM Like Andy said, economy of scale. Much cheaper for them to produce 1 platform or chassis. Mind you the tooling for the ZX chassis has probably been paid off.
I think for the touring crowd you might see a more conservative style on the same chassis.
Not everyone is thrilled about the "angular/chiselled" style of the REV. Plus some long distance riders might want more wind protection.

Just wondering, SkiDoo 800 - you ever taken a REV out for a good ride?
Gabby 01-02-2004, 06:11 PM I feel the same as ski doo 800. I like the ZX chassis also. Take a look at the Legends, it is still the old chassis. They also still make the little ones (380 and 500 fan) on the ZX chassis. And yes I have riden a 04 Rev 800X blue and yellow. Nice sled and nice ride. It lacks wind protection like stated above and I just am not used to the look yet. Will see.
paul yarek 01-02-2004, 06:32 PM the legend is the same as previous mxzs, i think the 800 sdi is probably the way to go. i just noticed there is still a 700 in their offering.
donner 01-02-2004, 06:49 PM Did you take one for a ride? If you havn't, give it a try. I just rode my brothers for 25 miles. You get used to it after the first turn... I told him I didn't want to ride it anymore. If I do, I will be geting one.
TT670 01-02-2004, 07:24 PM Ive only had the chance to put on 250 miles so far this yr, but every bar and restraunt Ive passed while riding has a parking area that looks like a ski doo dealership. Ive NEVER in my life seen so many ski doos on the trail... Someone must like them.
sled4life 01-02-2004, 08:47 PM i won't be getting rid of my 00 mxz700 anytime soon... rode the rev and don't care for it.
JasonF 01-04-2004, 01:44 AM The Rev chassis is just way to popular, I have ridden Doo for several years now and this is the first time that I have seen this many people switch brands for a piece of something so cutting edge. The other three manufacturers have there work cut out for them, which is getting a new product out there and getting their rider base back.
formulaIII8 01-04-2004, 10:20 AM Its all about mass production my friend. It cost alot of money to have 2 lineup of sleds being produced. The cost of all the tooling alone would make you SH**. Also they are trying to push the consumer into there new product, hense not of total conversion for 03. They are getting rid of the ZX chassis just like they did the triples. I think it would have been nice to put together a not so aggressive package in the ZX chassis.
My advice ride a Rev 800 HO, trust me you won't want to get back on a ZX chassis. I have access to a 800 HO, I try not to ride it b/c I won't get back on my sled after that. What a impressive sled. The old 800 doesn't even come close. I ride with alot of different sleds, cat, pol, doo, heavy modded guys, etc. The 800 HO impressed me more than anything else. Fast as sh** for a stocker.
revrnd 01-04-2004, 12:07 PM I snow checked a Legend Sport w/ the 600SDI because I wasn't ready for a REV. MY next one probably will be, but for my riding style I was happy w/ the ZX.
golfleft 01-04-2004, 12:51 PM I switched to the REV this year. The GSX 600 ho SDI with the 1 + 1 seat. I am very happy with the machine and the ride. It is a different ride and a fun ride, even with two people. Have fun out there and be safe.

big windy mxz 01-04-2004, 10:05 PM Hey they had enough money to tool up for the elite. That thing is big $$ I would like to blast it around for laughs. turn on the tunes , cruise dont ya know !!!!
RacerX408 01-04-2004, 10:17 PM IMHO the rev isnt a sled u just jump on and u love it. that was the case with me. the first time i rode it i wasnt sold on it. i kinda wanted my old 440 mxzx back instead of my new rev 440 racer. i got about 40 miles on it, and started to get the feel for it. then i went riding with a buddy who has a formula z (s-2000) chassis, and was completely turned off of riding it. i told him i wanted my sled back cuz i knew he wouldnt wanna ride his anymore. from now on no one i ride with is allowed to touch my rev cuz they'll hate their sleds. i'm not trying to sell the rev to everyone cuz it's not for everyone but if u ride it and dont like it right away dont give up on it.
Skimikecat 01-05-2004, 01:16 AM I was out riding with two Rev's two weekend's ago and I had no problem at all keeping up to them on the trails with my 99 Thundercat. In fact, if I didn't let off on the gas, I would have bump it a few times. We were riding at speeds of 60-85 mph and I got so fed up of watching out for his brake light to come on, that I passed him and pulled away from them at a speed more to my limit of experience, which was a 100 mph on some straights. Needless to say that they had problems catching up to me because after we stopped for a smoke, I asked them if they were using full throttle on the straights and they said they were. So I would say that I am not to empress with the performance of the Rev. They also didn't get very good gas mileage, in fact, my Thundercat was very close for mileage.
butternutz 01-06-2004, 11:01 AM :withstupid:
you hit there pal. these fancy guys with there fancy revs think there so hot but when it comes right down to it they aint no faster than us guys on our 'conventional' machines or whatever they call them. the only place they could be faster is in the bumps i never had trouble keeping up with my buds revs and on the lake they really enjoy looking at the old T-cat snowflapper.
04 800x 01-06-2004, 11:21 AM You knuckleheads on your T-Cats need to put down the pipe, I've ridden T Cats and they are by far one of the illest handling trail sleds I've ever had the misfortune of sitting on. Put them on a lake and they're a lot of fun, on the trail with a few turns get ready to work. Could a decent rider on a T Cat keep up with a Rev on the trail? Perhaps, but they're working a lot harder to do so. The Rev is far superior to any sled on the trail today, give it a chance and you will see for yourself. My buddies that had the T Cats now have Rev's and they're grinning ear to ear.
And a Rev topping out at 85 on any trail is a joke.
I was upset at first too. Then I rode a rev.My attitude changed quick. I had to go out and get one! :D

This has little to say of the Rev's ability, and alot to say of the riders ability. 100 mph on "some straights" is not the intended strong point of the Rev. Just for fun, why not challenge these same guys on a mogul filled set of twisties?
No ... that wouldn't be fair either ..... :D
I'll admit, the t-cat is an awsomely powefull sled, but the use, by design, is somewhat limited.

not "could" but rather "would"....... and really, to have the ability to be faster in the bumps, is all that matters.
Almostalegend 01-06-2004, 12:38 PM Revs have their place but i believe the zx chassis does as well. anyone looking for a good zx chassis shouldn't have a problem for a year or two since there value is plumating and there are many low milers around.
