I was wondering if my '95 2wd Ford Ranger with a 2.3 5 speed would pull an enclosed aluminum sno pro two place trailor with two sleds in it? I know it may be tough on it but what do you think? I will be going for 3 hours, into the mountains so it will be doing hills. I would like to know your oppinion on it and if you would take this combo anywhere!

Thanks
Chris

I would not even attempt it. Not on the hills.

My brother inlaw tryed pulling my enclosed trailer with his jimmy. He got it home. Then he had to switcdh to a big pickup. A little to hard on the jimmy

Snow tires, about 800 lbs. of sand, and a lot of patience you could do it. I wouldn't though.

I will bet that the ranger will pull the trailor through the mountains but I do not think it will get over 35mph! Just think of how powerful the ranger will feel on the way home coming down the mountain! Which brings up another point: How well will those smaller brakes work with a trailor pushing you down hill?? just a question. I have seen ranger trucks pulling trailors before so I am sure it can be done. Good luck and may the future bring you a LARGER Truck!

I drive my 1990 Mazda pickup 2 1/2 hours to my camp in Old Forge N.Y. It has a 2.6, 4 cyl. auto.
I put the "94 MXZX in the back of the truck. The "97 Formula Z and the Rev on my old steel trailer behind it. It only takes me about 1/2 hour longer then just my truck alone. I now also have a "97 Ford Ranger with the 2.3, 5 speed and I plan on taking the same package there many times this winter. I say GO FOR IT !!

I Have pulled with my Geo Tracker two sleds on a trailor in the hills (not mountain) of Quebec need to start braking way in advance lol

P.S my TRACKER is a 1.6 four wheel drive

Ya. Brakes are your issue more than the power thingy. Traction if it is snowy might also slow you down. So instead of going out and becoming an obsticle on the freeway borrow a bigger truck.

I wouldn't do it to much pressure on such a small engine. My buddy tried pulling a six place trailer with 8 sleds on it thats right 8 sleds on a six place with a half ton chevy and ended up blowing the rear main seal  . The truck had many miles on it but shouldn't of tried anyway. I think the same thing would happen.

i got a 94 ranger 4.0 v6, auto...we got a loadrite w/triton enclosure. On smooth flat rds its ok, the second i have to drive into wind, or up/down hills its all i can do to get it to go past like 40.Truck doesnt sit up high enough to really deflect very much wind away i think. You got a little bit going for ya w/the standard tranny, so you should be able toplay it safe w/that so long as you know how to shift :) I had a 93 4.0 5 speed, and it seem to pull our triton open 2 place pretty easily. Moral of my long ### post-i wouldnt go for it unless you like to get to know your local AAA better...

WOW, hahah a lot of replies on this one. Yeah, i'm still debating on whether to do it. I've tried borrowing many other vehicles but no one will let me haha. I'll see what i can do. I will have a buddy following me with a 1 ton pickup (my dads trailor so he doesnt want anyone else to pull it ya know!) so if i do struggle i'll just stop and throw the sled from his truck into mine then he can have the trailor.

Thanks guys
Chris

Just remember the brakes!! stopping is harder then pulling

I have a 98 Rnager w/ the 2.5 and a 5 speed manual tranny. I have towed two sleds with it around the yard. Its a lot of work for it. Lot of slipping the clutch. You will destroy your clutch towing both sleds. I hauled one sled from MI to PA on the turnpike. It wasnt to bad, but gas mileage was definatley down. I would not reccomend do 2 sleds plus a traliler.

I'm glad you worked it out. As I was reading through these posts I thought your Dad was being unreasonable to have you pull with the Ranger when a 1 ton is available. It's his perogative but I would'nt let my kid pull with it. Especially when there is a better, safer alternative. JMO.
