:dazed: Ok, here's the scenario, I own a 96 zrt 600, I was out on the local reservoir recently and was playing around sled was running fine, stopped to talk and it would hardly stay idling. Thought possibly fouled out plugs but that wasn't' the case, ended up pulling it home. Later, checked magnetic carb switches and all other safety switches and wires, found nothing. I took it to a local sled mechanic and we both have it narrowed down to two things, 1. Stator 2. CDI box

My question is, has anyone ever seen a stator or cdi box make a sled react so that it will start and idle(with a miss in spark, have checked with a spark tester, all cylinders miss at the same time?) but you can not accelerate, it just bellars like a stuck cow when you give it gas?????? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!!!!!

:D , the very first thing you need to check, is the ground wire, there are 2 grounds you'll see 1 from the cdi, then theres 1 from the recoil to the bottom of the muffler brakett, the grounds are very important on these sleds, the run a normally closed ignition, which has to have a good ground to complete the circut, i've been down this road with my 96 zert, i also installed a extra ground wire, from the top of the mag side engine, where the factory ground is to the chassis, also, big problem here is to check the tether, that went on mine also, just disconnect it all together, you can see how it looses contact, if you get engine runnin, just touch the tether and the engine will die out, another problem area is the key switch, just replace that as well, cheap, only like 8 bucks at A\C dealer, also try by-passin the carb switches if it is'nt already done, this should cure your problem,i would check all this out before spendin money and labor on a stator, let me know how ya make out

Another thing, did you run through any water? If so, you may have gotten the stator wet, that happens on my sled when I hit a good enough puddle. Also, check your connections where the stator and the other coils connect together. I spilled a little antifreeze on my connectors and it acted up one time as well. A CDI box going bad on a zrt is a LONG shot. That is almost unheard of on those, but anything is possible.

it could be the crank. had this happen to 2 sleds. crank spun putting it out of time. it would start right up sit there and idle all day. give it the gas nothing. good luck.
