I have a 99 Mxz 600 and my engine blew up late in the season last year and haven't had much time to work on it till now. So far I have tore the whole engine down to the crank and it all points to the oil pump/bearing. But the one mystery is why the center crank seals are shot to??? :huh: . Also one thing that is very interesting is that the sled ran great and has been taken care of its whole life until I took it to the dealer for some routine maintenance at 1075 miles. I had no time because of work so I took it to the dealership. Two weeks later the engine blows, and I mean it blew up :( . So now I came to the conclusion that no matter what I'm not trusting my dealer with my sled again :cussing: .
So I have been looking at my choices and have decided that getting a reman engine would probably be the cheepest way since I need: New pistions, seals, gaskets, crank or crank need to be torn apart and rebuilt and oil pump and oil pump gear....................... So thats why I believe this will be the cheepest route. I don't think I like the idea of getting a junk yard engine either since you don't really know what your getting and you don't have a warrenty with it either.
So if you guys could give me some places that do this kind of thing where you take your engine in and you buy an engine from them that is already been rebuilt with a year/2 year warrenty. Also prices it you have them to. I live in Swartz Creek in mid-michigan and would need some places in the US around this region.

Have you thought of parting it out? Or selling the rolling chassis? Just a thought, maybe. Sometimes the price of a motor you'd be money ahead just picing up another sled.
You might want to try calling Bird's Snow Sports in White Cloud,MI. Sometimes they have crate motors. (231)689-6571 they also have a web page www.birdssnowsports.com (I can't always get it to work)but it might be worth a try. Are you looking for another 6 to put in or are you open to 700 or 800?

I don't think that I would part it out, I've played with the Idea but that is to nice and clean of a sled to do that. I will post some pics in about a day. I have talked to the owner of Birds Snow Sports at the Novi show and we talked about my problem and he told me the prices of those crate engines and he seem kinda steep, in the 1200-1300 dollar range :crazy: . But maybe I'm wrong, I don't exactly know what a reman engine cost either. I'm not sure if I'm up to putting a bigger engine in or not :huh: .

$1200 to $1300 is very reasonable for a new engine, to fix yours you are looking at approx $1000. You won't find any reman engines that I know of and you are right about the wrecking yard ones, we buy a lot of them and they have to be completely gone through. -- Bill

PMC (http://www.pmcna.com/cat09skidoo.htm) is the only place I know of that sells reman sled engines. Price doesn't look very attractive to me.

Here in Canada Bernard Racing in Quebec is extremely reasonable and they ship complete crank assemblies and other major components to the US. They advertise in Snowtech.

1200-1300 sounds pretty good to me. I looked for a long time for that same motor and i never came close to that. I priced them at a few different salvage yards and they all had at least 500 miles and they wanted 1500to 1700 with a core that they could use. In my opinion i would jump on that deal. Just my $.02
