Maybe someone has mentioned this one before, but I don't remember it. Garmin has a CD that says it has snowmobile trails on it. Anyone try this one yet? www.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/topo.jsp (http://www.garmin.com/cartography/mapSource/topo.jsp)

Jim, that's the same TOPO CD you have and the main reason I spent the $90 on it only to find out it was B.S.

'Figured it was too good to be true....trails change from year to year anyway, so how accurate could they be if they were on there?!?!

I searched and searched in areas that I'me real familiar with (St. Helen) and found a couple short lengths labeled "Trail". But as far as I could tell it didn't even corresond with any of the sled trails I had tracks for. Yes it does stink. The idea in another thread of creating and sharring tracks is a good idea although I still haven't found anything that lets me modify tracks the way I'd like to. Maybe within the next couple years clubs will start to offer Tracks.

It shows the roads better at 1.5 mile range than the R & R program does at the .5 mile range? Just trying to get as much info as possible before I buy the whole setup. :D

Forget about the Garmin site maps, they're worthless. Like I said, R&R has the same roads as topo, roads are labeled and it takes a helluva lot less memory. Just no elevations lines all over the place wasting memory and cluttering up the map. Map detail can be set on the unit to show up at whatever range you set it at.

In TOPO many of the smaller and even medium size roads are simply labeled "Road". When you're trying to figure out your position on a printed map this is often times not enough of a help. Many of the trails intersect and use county roads a lot and on the R&R disk they're labeled. The TOPO appears to have more detail because it's showing elevation, swamps, state forest boundaries etc. The only advantage TOPO has over R&R is that it does have many 2 tracks in the map set. But again they're only labeled "Road" and IMHO that's marginally helpful. If you can only buy one, buy R&R.

Where I ride I've never seen any roads, two tracks or otherwise that topo had and r&r did not have.

I agree with Jason. I tried figuring out a way for the map details to kick in sooner on my Legend and could not figure it out. Like he said you need to be zoomed into a .5 mile view (which is microscopic) before many side streets and roads appear on the screen. On Topo, the side streets, trails, etc. are visible without zooming in so darn close - which is a great benefit. If someone knows how to adjust this, please let me know. I know thier is an option for "Map Detail" and I tried messing with it - and no luck.
