: Rx-1ton Works Well With A Skinny Guy
Mighty RX-1 01-11-2004, 01:47 PM Posted: Sun Jan 11, 2004 11:49 am Post subject: THE RX RULES ISLAND POND
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well just spent two days up at Island Pond Vt. It was very cold up there this weekend so i didn't have to listen to the two stroke guys say their sleds were jetted fat. I can honestly say that i beat every sled i lined up with!!Once again my sled is totally stock and i weigh around 165 and run the stock junk track with 192 woody's. The conditions on the lake were great for the RX not alot of snow and real good ice conditions. The sleds i raced and beat were as follows. 5 04 & 03 F7's, 2 ZR 900's, 1 04 XC800 with a SLP single and hammer time weights those weghts suck and would not recomend the to anyone, 1 04 REV 800HO and 1 03 REV800 that was actually beating the 04 REV. At the end of the day i got to beat up on a 04 WARRIOR, took him from a dead stop, a roll on at 40, anf a roll on at about seventy. At first i thought my buddies F7 was running bad but when i beat the rest of the F7's it proved my theary wrong. The ZR9's were loud so i think they had aftermarket mufflers. Boy all that noise and going nowhere whenwill these people learn. . Last time i posted about me beating sleds at GROTON VT. someone on this site said all the sleds shoud of beat me. Well once again this great machine proved them wrong. After i beat the 2 ZR9's one guy thought my sled was a turbo. One was an 03 and the other was an 04. I thought four strokes were slow. Also i didn't have to play catch up with anyone got them all right out of the whole. Take care this thing will beat any "STOCK" machine
sled-head 01-11-2004, 02:39 PM Interesting very interesting...I guess all of the Rx1's that I have just hammered in my travells must not have been running on all 4 cylinders...That would be the only way to explain how my 04 F7 nightfire cooked them by no less than 10 lengths in 1000 ft.. This guy who posted this wouldnt be bull $hitin...would he??
NewfieBullet 01-11-2004, 02:45 PM The not running on all 4 cylinders thing must be the explanation. Last year at our clubs races in January the RX-1tons didn't have a chance against the XC7's or the F-7's.
But maybe I should take the word of some unknown guy, from some unknown website over seeing it for myself. Maybe me and the other 800 spectators who were there were just mistaken.
puree 01-11-2004, 02:52 PM so,,,,,am I to race an rx1 with my f7 and expect to get hammered, or do the hammering?????
NewfieBullet 01-11-2004, 03:16 PM Flip a coin. I guess it depends on whether he's got it in 3 cylinder, feul economy mode, or 4 cylinder, fastest-thing-on-snow mode.
I'm surprised Yamaha doesn't explain this feature better in it's brochures.
Good2Go 01-11-2004, 03:50 PM I find that hard to believe that its just SMOKING everything else out there. REALLY HARD to believe. Not saying its slow but F7's? REV800HO?
Mighty RX-1 01-11-2004, 05:52 PM The only thing factual that I can say is this; I ride with 2 03 REV 800's and they can't beat me from corner to corner or on the straights. Granted, I never ran them with stock clutching, I had Heavy hitters.
Another guy I know rides with an 03 F-7 and they are both clutched and the RX-1 takes it everytime. The RX-1 also has an expert X skid and a lower profile track with over 200 roetin hornets.
I realize these may be isolated cases but it is what I have seen.
updragracer 01-11-2004, 06:12 PM :D I like the RX-1 and If I had the $$ I would buy one . Damn near every new sled out there right now is nice . But in comparison to my 1996 800 storm a new ZR 370 almost looks good .
puree 01-11-2004, 06:29 PM the only thing I find funny is how the rx1 stomped everybody in one post, then the next post talks about how the tcat couldnt be beat, the third post is nothing but the rev800ho was untouchable, and the last post is the f7's stomped everyone there,,,,, I guess when I get the chance, I will find out myself,,,,until then, I can tell you that the f7 will take a 94 vmax 600, a 90 prowler (w/ a zr580 under the hood), an 03 z370es, and a 97 zrt (w/ a 900 tcat under the hood),,,,,the last one was close, but in short distance, I got him,,,,,I havent raced everyone or every sled,,,but the only sled that beats me consistantly,,,,,, my sons zr120!!! I just cant seem to get by him for some reason,,,,hehehe
The Hossman 01-11-2004, 08:29 PM Puree,
I think these guys have it all wrong - SRX's are beating everyone!! :p
Mighty - you can't win for losing sometimes. You're almost better off just not saying anything. Unless every person on this forum is present and watches the RX-1 (or Warrior) race with their own eyes, you'll be hard pressed to tell them that it beat a Mini-Z.
Steven Hohman 01-11-2004, 09:54 PM It only said the RX-1 had studs. I'm sure the other sleds were just spinning on the ice, and not accelerating.
And with the weight of that sled, plus studs, it must have been hooking great.
bluelightning426 01-11-2004, 11:08 PM I am a yamaha mechanic and I have ridden ALOT of rx-1's and warriors. A warrior is slower than a regular RX-1. I can't see you beating every sled you mentioned. My buddy has an 03 ZR 900 and it eats a warrior. You must have been racing on ice or something

WHAT,,,,,, now that I dont believe,,,,I have tried and tried to beat my son on his zr120 with my f7 and I know for a fact that that race isnt close,,,,I get stomped everytime,,,,and you expect me to believe this rx-1 could beat it????
:D smile!!
Oh yeah,,,,Hossman,,,,I have NEVER,,,,EVER been beat by an srx,,,,,,
then again,,,never raced one,,,,,lol
Machzzzz1 01-13-2004, 12:35 AM If my friend with the RX-1 read that post mighty he would bring it in for warrenty.
There is no need to type out a page of why those results are just not possible. Conditions dont really have anything to do with it. All of those sleds mentioned are in there element on hardpack.
It sounds like the RX-1 was the only sled to have studs.
Mighty when are you going to get out and sled. You must have snow by now. If not hang in there. Im looking forward to your first ride report. :D
permafrost 01-13-2004, 08:38 AM Unless every person on this forum is present and watches the RX-1 (or Warrior) race with their own eyes,
This is the way to doo it Mighty, just like I did last year. Take some video footage and get it posted on SW. This will help more than any number of pasted posts w00t . It is kinda weird that he never mentioned anything about the other sleds being studded. If they werent it would be compareable to a Machz VS a GADE in the powder. I have never had the oportunity to race a RX1 yet :( but when I doo I will try to have some footage posted.
iammxz800 01-24-2004, 08:51 PM People can't take getting beat!!! I have a 02 Mxz 800 X Stock, 144 pics, my buddy has a 03 RX1 192 pics stock, on hard pack @ 65 mph he walks away from me 10 ft @ a time. He bet me fair and square over and over again!! Not to mention the $50 is fuel savings that weak-end. Yamaha is on the right track, they need a little help on the trail riding though...
sully44 01-26-2004, 02:41 PM If you were out this weekend in Mercer, WI, on the Flambeau Flowage, you would have constantly seen a black Turbo RX-1 beating everthing from Machs to 900 Zrs. Once again, this thing had a turbo in the thing. Range of length was one to 5 sled lengths in 1000'. However, I only lost to him by a sled length in my modified 03 ZR900. I raced 3 Rx-1s this weekend and only lost once by a half sled length and it was because I could not get my nose out of the air fast enough, real bad start.
