i found out what was wrong with my zr580. The stator is not giving out enough spark. What is an easy way to check the stator??? Cause if is is i have to spend 300 bucks on a new stator. But a question....how long will the stator last for??? I just dont' want to spend 300 and then not have the thing work. But would like to def make sure that i need a new one.
thanks

You need an ohm meter to test the stator.

From the stator, there is a three wire connector.

Put the black lead from the testor on the center wire. Then put the red on each of the outside wires (charge oil 1 and 2)

Meter should read between 13 and 20 ohms for each.

Is the sled an EFI?
I have had zero luck with rewound stators on efi ZR580's, zr600's, and zr 500's.
Not just once, but on many sleds - the carbed sleds seem to work ok with the rewinds, but honestly the carb sleds were sold just after replacement.
My personal sled (zr600 efi) went through 2 rewinds in a two month period. Replaced with an A/C and 3000 miles later - no probs.

another option, I see 580 stators on ebay quite a bit.
