: Tra Heavy Pins
purple punisher 01-14-2004, 11:34 AM I have purchased Goodwin Heavy adjustable pins for my drag sled. Its a Doo tripple. The pins are longer than stock and now rest against the governer cup rather than sitting in between the holes as before. Does this affect anything?
Can I grind out the cup wider so they sit as before?
Need advice
ballsout1 01-14-2004, 05:17 PM call goodwin, I use em and no they gotta be able to go exactly were the stock ones go or you will scrap the housing, i think maybe there not tapped all the way or something got scewed up manufacturing, doo you have a long screw in last by only a few threads?
purple punisher 01-14-2004, 07:39 PM No the hollow pins are actually 3/8 of an inch longer than a stock pin. The stock pin sits flush with the side of the arms and these stick out each side. The pin end of the arm which normally flop down towards the spring will only go down as far as the cup which holds the spring in.
Thumbdoctor 01-14-2004, 09:23 PM You may also notice a slight ringing sound with the longer Goodwin (or any brand for that matter) pins, don't be alarmed, it happens on some TRAs at about 3500 RPMs. I isolated it by putting dabs of RTV on the spots where the pins contact the spring hub. This will only last one season the you will need to do it again for next year when you clean your clutches or just live with the sound.
Dynamo^Joe 01-14-2004, 10:41 PM Hello...
I have pics of measurements of exactly how much to notch the long pins for the TRA III.
I also have pics of what the governor cup looks like when the setscrews contact at a low clicker. If the screws touch they will only touch a few times then they will clear after that, as I have marked with liquid whiteout and it does not get rubbed off. Sometimes you may touch the balance clip if one happens to be positioned there in the contact area.
Give me an email if needed. With bevel on both ends, you only lose 0.3 grams and they clear on #1 clicker.

purple punisher 01-14-2004, 10:43 PM thumbdoc I run it on the above sled. It engages at 6000 and run 9500 RPm with prostock pipes( engage a little lower on asphalt). I don't hear any ringing. LOL
As long as it doesn't afffect shifting other than what the extra weight is supposed to do then I am happy.
purple punisher 01-14-2004, 10:45 PM joe just emailed you thanks

Krusty 01-15-2004, 07:20 AM Hey purple, how did you make out at the drags in Omemee in Nov. Did you meet up with that Ultra in the 700 finals?
purple punisher 01-15-2004, 08:05 AM Krusty, yes I did. Won both times at the 2 races i attended. Ended up 2nd in the 5 race point series cause i won. It was fun but the grass is way too hard on equiptment. I Think I will stick to Asphalt.
There were 2 ultras there.....Mark Lane has Tim Wardens old 96 Ultra and then there was Jeff Bonter. I ran Jeff in the finals the one race and a month later ran the other in the finals.
mach1b98 01-15-2004, 09:20 AM Dynamo, do you have to notch the governor cup when using the Goodwin long pins ? I've read many of your posts and appreciate all the info. I'm running a 98' Mach 1 700.
BoumBoum 01-15-2004, 09:28 AM Dynamo,
I bought a set of adjustable pins from Dalton industries last week. It is specified to use this kit with the clickers sets to 4 or more. Is it because the length of the pines?

idooski 01-21-2004, 06:05 PM I have a set of heavy pins that I made out for testing right now. They are stock length and weigh in at 23.5 gms empty. You can fill them to 29-30 gms. Let me know if there is an interest.
Grover 01-21-2004, 09:10 PM If you have Dynamo Joe's kit you will. Goodwin is making them also for 59$US. You have to ask. -Grover

idoo800x 01-22-2004, 10:50 PM THE GOODWIN PIN'S HIT IN THE TRA III AND ON THE SKI=DOO 300 SERIES RAMP'S. YOU HAVE TO RUN THEM IN CLICKER #4,5,OR 6 IF YOU HAVE THIS SETUP OR YOU CAN FILE A SMALL AMOUNT OFF THE END AT AN ANGLE AT THE POINT THE HIT.
