Last year I put new 2000 Arctic Cat clutches into our 94 wildcat EFI and 94 EXT EFI. I got them from D&D, and had them set them up with their 'trail' kit, put the new helixes in, etc.

The Wildcat is perfect. The EXT on the other hand doesn't engage until around 6000 rpm. It's my wife's sled and she simply doesn't ride it aggressively enough for 6000 to make sense. The engagement point feels about 1000 rpm to high to both of us.

Anyhow... how do I get the engagement down a little bit, can I just put slightly heavier weights in the primary?

Thanks!

sounds like you got a clutch kit from D&D in the ext, what i mean is that it's not a stock primary spring and weights combination, go with the stock clutch set up the A\C calls for on that sled, and it should bring the rpm engaugment back down, 6000 grand is way to high, not exactlly sure on the 94ext efi engaugement, but just worked on a friends 95 ext carb. and the engaugement rpm was around 4500.that was with a brand new 9 tower A\C with stock springs and weights.. hope this helps ya out...........

I got a d&d clutch kit in my zr600 and it engages at about 5000-5500. I ride kinda aggressive. I thought it was engaging a little high but I was told I would lose bottom end if I lowered the egagement, it doesn't bother me though.

I think what your looking for is a trailable machine and 6000 rpm is not trailable. If it is a complete clutch kit from d&d then you will probably have to change it all out to stock to get the recommended 3000-3500 rpm engagement which is much more trailable. You can try putting in a factory red spring and that will bring it down but I am not sure if it will shift properly with the clutch kit in, watch peak rpm. You should be able to get a factory red spring for next to nothing from your dealer or ebay

Yeah, the Wildcat 700 EFI with the D&D kit engages right at 5000, which is fine for me.

Thanks for the help guys. Pointed me in the right direction, I scoped things out, D&D put in stock weights in both the wildcat and EXT (though they had the clutches labeled for the wrong sled, that was fun). They put in yellow/green drive springs, which is one step heavier than the red, stock driven springs, and their own helixes. I think switching back to the red will solve the whole problem. Probably just do it on both.

I think I can swap springs on the EXT no problem w/out removing the clutch, the wildcat is another story, barely any room..

Thanks again.

:D new clutch springs are pretty cheap just go to the dealer and get the OEM spring your sled requires and it will work sweet :D

I think the stock spring is a yellow-green. Stock weights and stock spring should be 4500 - 5000 RPM I believe. Maybe part of the problem is belt clearance in the primary? Too much side clearance from a worn belt, or improperly shimmed belt could cause higher speeds to reach engagement.

New belt, and the stock springs in the clutches I took off were definitely red springs...

I'm not sure what you mean by 'improperly shimmed belt' though..
