On a '78 Polaris Cobra, Cobra340? If so, either 40 or 50:1 with modern oils should be fine.

Just a bit more of a safety factor, and you won't foul plugs any faster. If you're concerned about burning it down, go 40:1.

With old oils, back in the 60's and early 70's, sometimes you had to mix at 16 or 24:1. Lots of smoke and fouled plugs!!
