phat_cat800 01-18-2004, 04:23 PM Well my brother finally got out for his first good ride on his 03 Firecat 700 and all didn't go to good. He was riding along and suddenly the sled quit, just as if the kill switch had been hit. They stopped and looked for things wrong and couldn't find anything and then got it started again and spit and sputtered for a bit then seemed to clean out. Got down the river a couple more miles and the same thing happened. This time all he did was turn the key off then back on and started right up and ran fine. He bought this sled this fall from the dealer and it only had 300 miles on it and was suppose to have all the recalls/updates done. Any ideas of why it did this??
puree 01-18-2004, 05:34 PM man, not happy to hear that,,,,I know you have talked his sled up and couldnt wait to give it a ride,,,,, I am sorry to hear that scott,,,,, I myself didnt have any problems with mine,,,,, I have also not hear of anything like that with the f7s,,,,
any chance you have a bad switch,,, kill or key????
phat_cat800 01-18-2004, 05:40 PM Yeah I was bummed when I heard about it but its all under warrenty so its not a big problem. Could it be a smart valve? or somthing electrical? We're suppose to get some snow tonight and tomorrow so hopefully he'll get it fixed and we'll be able to run next weekend, since I couldn't go out this weekend. Atleast his red skis stayed together. LOL
puree 01-18-2004, 05:45 PM didnt think about the smart valve,,,,it could be,,,,,
phat_cat800 01-19-2004, 10:36 AM BTT...Anyone else have any ideas of what could have caused it to quit?
1holeshort 01-19-2004, 11:39 AM That is a bummer , and not meaning to say this is the problem , but I had a 2000MXZ that would do the same thing when I run it hard. The first time it happened , it just shut off as if I hit the kill switch , I checked and everything was OK , restarted the machine again and run it all weekend.Next time out I ran it hard and it shut down again.I mentioned it to a friend of mine who is an expert , he tells me to bring to his place and so I did , pulls off the exhaust and #### , 2 skuffed pistons.
This may not be the case with the F7 (hopefully not) but try checking the pistons ,because if it is he may take the crank out because of metal in the base.
Let me know what you found.
phat_cat800 01-19-2004, 11:45 AM Well just got off the phone with him and he was talking to the dealer and the dealer said there is some sort of screen/filter (smart valve? ) before the fuel pump to prevent water from entering the fuel system. If this filter catches some water it will colaspe and stop the flow of fuel, causing the engine to run out of gas. They told him to try some iso in it and see if that helps it because since the last time it was run was in mid december and condensation could have build up in the tank. Will be trying it out this weekend since we got some snow :D. He also said it worked great and had tons of pull.
if i think of something i'll let ya know scott. has your brother called the Mcleans yet. if they dont know which the probably wont give T&T a call.
phat_cat800 01-19-2004, 03:25 PM Yeah he was talking to the dealer (read my post above yours LOL). Of course when he told them the great people at McLeans said "hmm...we've never heard of that before". They told him to try running some Isoprofene in it to see if that cures it, if not then they'll start tearing it apart (good thing its still has lots of warrenty). I may have to call T&T anyways to inform them that they forgot to tighten 2 studs on the Turbo and tell them that I need a Firecat 700 for about $5,000 :D
puree 01-20-2004, 01:49 AM scott, count me in on one of those 5000$ firecats!!!!
