I was up in hurley, stopped at a bar about 5:30 pm to warm up and get my usual drink of choice...Mt. Dew. There were sleds in the lot that were there for hours for sure judging by the snow on them. This guy come out...yelling how he loves drinking and sledding, he is half baked, 5:30 in the afternoon. Wow was I impressed...to see such white trash so up close and personal. He gets on his sled, and tore off like a raped ape. What a moran. What do people get out of that. Please be safe, there are people out there that value there life, have families and the list goes on. While in the bar, Full of at least 70 or more sledders, I think I counted maybe 5 including myself not drinking...I was soo impressed! My question is, what is the point. Wait until you are finished sledding Please.

I usually don't chime in on these topics becuase it's usually pretty pointless and nobody ever wins. Guess I'll just share a little story here. A few weeks back after we put the sleds away, a buddy and I went up to the bar that is just off the trail to watch the hockey game and in comes this guy by himself on his sled. He was already smoked when he walked into the bar. He could barely walk. He bellied up to the bar and continued to have at least two more beers before we left. At one point he got up to go to the bathroom and was bouncing off the walls from side to side as he walked. It was pretty pathetic. After he got out of the bathroom, he stood by and was watching some guys play pool. He could hardly even stand. He practically fell over a couple times. I was actually pretty upset that the bar was still serving this guy. Anyone could tell that this guy was just trashed. This is why we usually have the sleds put away and off the trails by the time it gets dark. Then again, I'm sure there are guys in his condition on the trails during the day too, but probably not as many of them.

You know it is amazing how bar keepers ignore the "No Serving" Law. In Michigan it is illegal to serve someone who is intoxicated. Usually there is a 4 drink limit. Problem is that it is in the bar's best interests to keep on serving the intoxicated and make more money. There is not really any inforcement outside of the metro areas.

Now ask your self this. Would you call the police is a guy had a gun to someone's head. I would. Handing the keys to a drunk is just like handing him a gun. Sooner or later there will be a round in the chamber that will go off when the trigger is squeezed.

There should be no tolerance for this.

I also take notice of beverages being consumed at pit stops. After all the talk about the drinking crackdown it still amazes me that people drink like fish, then go ride. I never ride after consuming alcohol. But if they put a ban on pepsi I'd be in serious trouble. One other point, it seems most people on this site really care about this great sport. Why else would there be so much talk and interest on subjects like this. I'd be willing to bet most of the screw-ups are not in this sport for the long haul. They probably are only in it until the fad wears off and probably don't even read stuff like this. Stay safe.

Me too. I just love the taste of a frozen pepsi out on the trail. The new 24oz'ers fit great in my saddle bag.

Same here. Coffee or usually a large ice water is what I have at the bar. I can drink oceans of beer but it doesn't go good with riding for me. All the carbonation and full feeling you get not to mention the danger of slower reaction times. I have no interest in drinking in riding. Now of course when we are done for the day we usually get all honked, when it's safe to do so.

fuzzbutt, I love the 24 ouncer's, too. The only problem is I got a new windshield and it fits tighter on my sled. Now my windshield bag doesn't have as much room, so it's a tight fit, but it works.
