my chaincase has a hole it in...a fairly big one....more like a punch up through it...i was wondering could it be repaired? maybe some 2 part epoxy like jb weld? or could it be welded...?

All depends where the hole is, is it the case or cover? And where on that piece? Just about anything can be repaired, but at what price? What is the price of a replacement? Can you find a used one? Often on this site people are asking about salvage yards or good places to find used parts. I'd look into that. Good luck.

sorry for not being more clear, its in the bottom of the cover, almost directly down from the dipstick...so i can't see why it couldn't be repaired, its not like the chaincase is under severe pressure (as far as i know) so as long as it holds fluid i should be good, right??

i was just hoping someone with a similar experiance could help me out...

as far as a replacement, well thats option number 2....there's a good salvage yard 15 min away (peterborough cycle salvage), but i can't get there until saturday...plus a 10 dollar repair is more favourable than a 50 dollar part....

I would just use a sealer compound for the time being. Can tire has liquid aluminum or one of the local truck shop(Peterbilt, Kenworth etc) has a putty for fixing aluminum gas tanks. I had a small hole in the chain cover welded last year for $20 cash at our local welding shop, so it's up to you.

if $50.00 will put you in the never have to worry category and $10.00 is still going to be a maybe then i would go the extra $40.00. i am sure that some of those can be repaired without a hitch.

Seen those covers as low as $10 on ebay. Can probably weld it up, too. Been done before.

I bought a sled once that had the lid welded on it. Whoever welded it then sealed it with some kind of silicone. It wasn't leaking when I got it, but I replaced it anyway.
