Hello Corey, that's my map I sent. This was from Jan 2- Jan 9. We ran out of memory and couldn't download it to my laptop, so I have half of the week I'd say.

Enjoy!!

Joel, does your 176C allow you to save more than 10 track logs? I noticed there are a bunch of short tracks in there. But very good overall. I'll have a bunch of tracks from Wawa this weekend and Jordan Valley next weekend.

Art, if I remember correctly when I looked in my logs, the 176c can only hold 10 different logs. I had the same prob as Joel, my memory filled up after one day, so I flipped it to CONTINUOUS mode so I could at least save the tracks from the last day of off-trail riding. As soon as I have some time at home, I'll try to u/l mine also...they're all from the forests south/southwest of Munising.

The 176 has a 2500 point track log and can save 15 tracks. I have my 176 set to record as follows: Wrap, Distance and .10 mile. Set at 1/10 mile the active track is good for up to 250 miles and is accurate enough for trail riding. At the end of each days ride you simply save the days ride and then clear the active track for another 250 mile ride. With 15 saved tracks you have the potential to record 3750 miles of riding without running out of memory.

I think I have a 128mb card, or is 256mb the biggest, which ever is the biggest Garmin has, is what I have. I also uploaded a lot of maps for the drive up there, which I thought I erased once we got up there.

One of the reasons for the # of tracks, is the amount of stops, or times I turned the unit on/off, whether it be stopping for breakfast or a smoke break on the side of the trail.

Either way, these things are just too friggin cool!!

I'm glad you mentioned this, because I couldn't find it in my manual. I was having a hard time believing that once the active memory was full, that I couldn't save it and keep going. Too bad I didn't try this last week, but at least now I know.

Also, if I had 2 memory cards, could I put one in the gps and d/l a mapset of the highways from Mapsource, let's say for driving to the destination, and put another card in the gps and d/l the area that I plan on sledding in? That way I could have detailed roads for driving, and when I arrive up north, I could simply insert the memory card for the sledding area. Seems like it should work.

The size of the data card has no bearing on the length or number of tracks you can record or save. The active track is limited to 2500 track points...ie if set to .10 mile you can record up to 250 miles, if set to .20 mile it will record 500 miles, .05 125 miles etc etc. Once you exceed the mileage/track points the memory becomes full and in Wrap mode it will continue to add track points to the end but will remove equal track points from the beginning. So say you have it set for .10 mile (starting with the memory cleared) you can record up to 250 miles...you ride 200 miles the first day...that leaves only 50 miles left of memory in the active track....hardly enough for another days ride. That's when you save that days ride and then clear the active track memory for another 250 miles. Note that when you save a track it automatically reduces it to a max of 500 points keeping key turns but taking out many points on straightaways.

I noticed a lot of the start and stops were for short durations...did you have any trouble with losing power/plug backing out?

Sure that would work...turn off the GPS and switch cards...at startup the GPS reads the card that is installed.

So are the tracks saved on the card, or the gps itself? In other words, if your mapset has taken up nearly all of the card's memory, is it possible to not be able to use all 2500 trackpoints? I'm still not clear with what is actually saved on the card and what is saved on the actual gps. For example, I d/loaded a new mapset this morning to my gps for local driving, but the waypoints that I created last week are still in the gps. I guess the waypoints are kept in the gps regardless what mapset you use.

Waypoints, tracks and routes use and are saved on internal GPS memory.
