Hey guys...I had my new Z-570 lock up on me the other night while going slow down a snowbank. *I thought the brakes locked up, but it turns out, I broke my chain drive. *Can someone let me know more about that? *It's going to be in the shop for a week or so until the parts come in. *I'm bummed out. *I just put 300 miles on it in N.B. this weekend and 550 total. *It's been a sweet sled for me and I'm not going to let this get me down...But, can anyone describe that area a bit more for me? *Thanks...

That sucks! Basically, you motor's crankshaft is what your primary clutch is mounted to; the primary clutch drives the secondary clutch via that rubber belt. That secondary clutch mounts on the jackshaft. The jackshaft is a metal bar that goes to the other side of the sled. Your brake should be mounted on that. That shaft drives the track via the chain inside the chaincase. If your track locked up and it's not your brakes, your jackshaft may be jacked http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif or something broke in the chaincase and is jamming the chain somehow keeping the track from spinning. Did you get a look at your chaincase? was it damaged; or did it look fine. That stuff happens; bad casting or weak part. Good luck

did you check the tension on the chain, *i am not sure if this model has just the spring or the adjuster, *but if the chain got some slack in it this could have caused your problem.

Cravenfan, spoke to a T-Cat owner that informed me that his chain blew through the case at 1700 miles! after the dealer handed him a hefty repair bill said,"you should change these chains every 1000 miles on thgese high powered sleds."
when i purchased my sled(from a different dealer) he told me to bring it back at 300 miles for chain adjustment among other things becouse they'll get slack and lock up! for as much money that *this T-Cat owner spends at this place I'm assuming the only thing this dealer wants to service it his wallet...... peace

Thank god for warrantees! My uncle bought a Z-570 tow weeks ago and the first day out the track tensioners let go. The dealer had him out in an hour. They are a nice machine even if you broke your chain drive you'll be back out on the snow in no time still saying to yourself what a buy that Z is. I am thinking of picking up a leftover then end of this year for a spare sled. All I have to do is get rid of the other 3 I have now.

Thanks Powderboy...Yes, I'll have it next week. *I'm real happy with the buy. *I put on 300 miles in N.B. and loved it. *One the tight trails in the woods, I can keep up with anyone. *And for $4500, I think it's a great deal...I'll have to keep an eye on the milage...I wonder if anyone else has had this problem with the new 570?

I saw that Artic Cat is not offering the SS model of the Z570 for 2003, or did I miss something? *Glad I got one. *Best ride and performance for the price!

I've got 540 miles. *Going to Gaylord Feb. 15 - 18 and hope to put a couple hundred more on.

I replaced my chaincase oil with AMSOIL (http://oil.tourge.net) shortly after buying the sled. When I took the cover off I noticed the chain adjustement bolt wasn't even touching the adjuster. It's supposed to be finger tight just touching the adjuster plate, and then locked. There was a half inch gap in mine. most likely same with yours. This probabely caused the chain to slap around and/or jump up the sprocket a bit.

Your lucky that the chain didnt break when you where going fast into a corner. *Could have lost your brakes.

Speaking of chains breaking. *I broke a chain yesterday at the races, has anyone changed over to 15 link from 13 link? * *looking at a set of gears and a chain, take a little more abuse.
what kind of HP are these 13 links chains rated to take?

Cravenfan, how has the gas mileage been with your 570? is it a SS? how is the ride of the rear suspension ? Top speed? does the clutch engage smoothly or with a jerk? I have two Z570SS' and the clutch does seem to engage with a jerk, sort of. *I have 560 miles on mine and I love it. *The ride is smooth. *For $4300 go for it. *They are not offering the SS version for 2003. I guess they want to bring down the prices.

Lots of questions...I don't have SS and it still rides very well. *From what I hear, you can't beat the SS however. *It wasn't worth the $800 extra for me, as I needed a jacket, helmet, etc. *Clutch engauges smooth for me (until the chain broke). *I've had mine going 82 and didn't have it pinned to the handlebar. *I've seen reports of 90 mph or so. *Great sled for the cake...I got mine for $4500. *If I was you, get the SS. *Gas started out low, but about 10 mpg or so now. *I haven't got a good read on it yet...In the wide open field, some other guys will smoke you. *From the quick start and in the woods, you can hang with anyone. *Just the right blend of performance and reduced weight...Good luck! * http://www.snowmobileworld.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
