My computer IBM T30 laptop w/ windows XP. Heres my dilema, my computer has been running deadass slow, for easy the last month, month and a half. I went to run my disk cleanup, and it wont go past the first step of compressing old files. Like i let it run for 20 mins and it never moved past this pt. I then ran my defrager in hopes that would help, yea it didnt.
Now i think i know what the problem is. Its my temporary internet files. It happened once last yr at college, and the folks at help desk cleaned the folder manually and it was good to go. There is just so many, it just makes the computer dead ### slow i guess.
I did a search for the folder/file but i cant find it. Where in the world do i find this folder so i can get some speed back.
Thanks for any help or info.-Adam

In explorer, click on Tools, then click on 'Internet Options...'
In the Temporary Internet Files section, click the 'Delete Files...' button.

Start>run Type in msconfig
What services do you have a startup?
What services are running?
Read and research the services before removing the checkmark.
Some services will eat up your RAM and processor.
have you created a performance log to find out what is being used the most. Try and create it with processor % and memory %.
Do you have any large DB Software like siebel etc etc?
How much RAM do you have?
I know from experience IBM T20 T21 T22 T30 have a hard time running XP after installing third party software like Kazaa.
More RAM 256 or 512 would be better.
Try changing the Performance Settings under Systme properties. Change to Adjust to Performance. This will take away the visual effects but will speed up the PC.
Let me know and keep up posted

computer is working better, i went through into my add/remove hardware, and got rid of a bunch of sh!t. Also removed a bunch of the icons that run on startup. My disk cleanup action still isnt working tho, so i dont really know whats up w/that. My only other ? is, i want to take my owners manuals which is on cd and copy it, but i dont have a burner. Is it possible to load the cd, then somehow copy to the harddrive, and then put it back on another cd???-Adam
