I have a 2000 Ski-doo Summit 700 Highmark. I have been talking to a few people with newer summits that said they really noticed the difference with having a dropped and rolled chaincase on their new sleds. My question is how hard is it do drop and roll my chaincase? I have seen kits for about $100 or so and they say they come with detailed instructions. I would like to find out if I will be able to do this in my garage or not. I don't really want to spend the money to find out it is way too over my head. Any comments or ideas would really help.

I wouldn't even bother with it if you're thinking that minute roll doo did- it was like 5/16 of an inch? If you look, you'll see that the case doesn't really have any place to go, unless ya go BIG. Sure ya can do it, but it's gonna take a fair amount of time- There's DEFINITELY some disassembly work involved. Your buddies probably notice the suspension set back way more than the factory (or aftermarket) chaincase roll- because it hardly moved.

Thanks for the info. 5/16 of an inch doesn't sound worth it. The guys I ride with don't go anywhere I can't or climb any higher than me.

what FIII said. Not worth it. The template rolls don't move it enough. On the S chassis it allowed you needed it to use a 2" paddle with 9t drivers. Big drop and rolls put the drivers below the belly pan, can you say "bent drive axle". Ask anyone with a 900 cat. Great for a hillclimb mod, but for sleds that need to take you in through 3 or 4 passes and get you out 3 or 4 passes? That '00 hmk skid is an awsome deep snow setup. It has the longest rails out there, it may only be a 151 but it is laying down as many sq in'' as some of these new sled with bigger track. Softer center spring and a track riser (if needed). Gear it and clutch it.

The '00 rails work perfect for doing what Doo did- suspension setback. With a 156", that is. If it were me, I'd think about going that route. Depends on where ya ride, I guess. The 156" with setback AND D&R feels pretty long... cuz it is. But maybe it wouldn't be bad with just the set back. I really don't think setback + big D&R is so bad, just that in the spring, it's way overkill. Would improve approach angle. Could swap the 151 rails for 144 and do it that way, too, and keep the 151".

I was a little leary about dropping the driver out of the tunnel (I seem to find all the rocks), but so far so good. Only dented my chaincase guard a little... :dazed:
