Yesterday I went snowmobiling from Orillia over to Penatang Ontario. But when I we were crossing Georgian Bay, there were slushy spots. I was just wondering... is there ice under the slush? Or if you stop, will you be swimming?

Usually, there is ice underneath. I think the slush is caused by the weight of the snow pushing the ice down. When this happens, the water sneaks up on top of the ice.
I've never been afraid to go through slush. I actually enjoy it w00t
It just bites when you get stuck in it and you have to pull/push yourself out in 2 feet of it :cussing:

Ya I've run into slush a fair amount myself, i've never stopped long enough find out.....but now that i think about it....for slush to be on the top, it'd have to be sitting on a solid substance (ice) otherwise it'd turn to open water.....

was out on our local lake today (belwood lake) and there was quite a bit of slush underneath of the snow. u can feel it when you're riding cuz it feels like your back end sinks down. i got off to talk to some ice fishermen to see how they were doing and there was probably 4-6 inches in some spots. nothing i was too worried about tho. tons of ice underneath the slush, about a foot.

Anytime I've been on sluchy river or lake theres normally still a good ;ayer of ice under it. Though today we crossed one little river and it had about 4" of shail ice on it, which made hard going and then my stepdad broke through a spot so I had some water skipping to do :D .
