Under the hood snow and ice. This is a big pain in the ### because the only way to get rid of the ice is to bring the sled to the car wash everytime after powder riding. Any suggestions.

if your riding in that much powder I doubt you will have any kind of cooling problem so if were me I'd duct tape the front vents close.tape outside the hood and take gummy residue off with brake cleaner (won't hurt the paint)

To change that bearing, you have to remove the entire suspension ...its only 6 bolts and a bit of wrestling....i had a problem with that middle bearing myself, it's slightly larger than every other bearing on the sled....we had quite the discussion on it here....the wheel looks alright ( i think) you just need a new bearing....it wouldn't be a bad idea to put new bearings in all the wheels...i got a 10 pack from royal distributing for 30 bucks...as for the snow under the hood...how are the ski boots? if they are ripped or torn thats where your problem is...i had to change one of them myself this year....

Hey Russ thanks for the link. My too favorite tools are a ballpeen hammer and a flat screwdriver. I would of screwed up the axle and probably more of the machine because of that centre bearing. I'll buy the kit from Royal tonight.

Russ I found the bearing kit at royal, the ten pack. Does the proper centre bearing come with this kit.

Looks like a lot of your ice problems are because the front suspention boots are shot. Replace them and tape the hood shut. Also ice build up in the front of the tunnel is just a fact of life. And no you dont have to remove the skid to replace the middle berring. I have replaced that very one before just by loosening the track all the way and remve the 2 outer wheels then tap the shaft out one side with a hammer and a brass drift. Oh yea thread a slightly shorter bolt in the side that you are going to tap so you dont hurt the bolt hole. Thread bolt all the way in and tap on that. NOT THE ALUM. Good luck. Hope this helps.

All the bearings from royal are the same size....you have to get the correct size bearing (for the middle) from a place that sells them, canadian tire, dealership, etc...the correct size is listed in that thread, 1.00 or 2.54 or something....

I had PRS sleds from '85 to '94. I don't think I ever saw that much snow under the hood. What condition are the suspension boots in?

From experience, do not duct tape the vents closed, the motors gets no clean air and has terrbile performance.

Instead, buy window screening and attach that to the inside of you vents so it keeps out large chunks of snow but lets clean air inside, this is what i did and it works great.

By looking at the amount of snow in there, for sure i bet the ski boots are shot, replace them, i had to, made a BIG difference.

Boots were torn bad. I'll have to source the centre bearing it seems. Good thing for this site because I would of really been pissed if I tried to put one of the other bearings on and busted it. Thanks for the help, the parts should be here in a couple of days with the repair manual. Hopefully the proper part numbers are listed in it for ordering purposes.
