I have a 1998 MXZ 500 and am experiencing a problem with the brakes. The brakes are not working when I pull the brake lever, The brake light isnt even lighting up. This problem started about 2 weeks ago and comes and goes. When the problem occurs I let it run for about 10-15 mins. and then shut it off. Im curious if the brake line is freezing up (been very cold lately), if so how can I prevent the problem and if I let the sled run longer will the line thaw and will the brakes work properly? Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

if you have never changed the brake fluid i can only imagine that there is moisture in your brake line. is the lever not compressing enough to activate the brakelight switch ?

No Brakes? Scarry stuff. Check the brake fluid reservoir for contamination and try flushing the system. definitely something you want to address ASAP

It all depenbds on how your lever feels. If it feels normal and doesn not bottom out and isnt too soft, then it could be a restrictions somewhere in your line. But meaning your brake light does not come on tells me you havea switch problem, because its mechanically activated. The brake light should come on when the lever is pulled. If the lever is not being ulled far enough, then your not getting fluid or caliper movement. Nothin is happening and your lever is as hard as a rock.
If the lever is soft and bottoms out, then you have a switch problem and a hydraulic problem. Most likely a leak and you ran out of fluid, or fluid is leaking past the cups on the master cylinder piston.
Usually brake fluid will not freeze up unless it has a mas amount of water in it. How many people have changed the brake fluid in their 98 model year car or truck?..not too many. Your supposed to change it every two years. Brake fluid absorbes 5% of its volume in water in 2 years. 5 years, 10% of its volume in water absorbed.
No brakes is no fun..lol..whe you have to stop that is
