: I Saved A Deer's Life Last Night
paul yarek 01-26-2004, 12:37 PM there is a spot where i like to ride just when the sun has gone down to look at the deer in the fields. i went there last night and i seen either 3 wolves or coyotes in a triangle formation with a deer in the middle of their formation. at first i thought it was a bigger deer with three smaller ones as it was dark and getting hard to see without light. as always i put my light on the pack and could see there was a deer in distress so i gassed on over towards the group to chase the big dogs away. the deer seemed to know what i was up to or was too scared to move at first but the predators all leaped together back in the bush and then the deer went on his way into a open field.
MichYamaha 01-26-2004, 12:41 PM You realize you have probably just altered the future for all of us :p :D
vapourtrail 01-26-2004, 01:06 PM those wolves have to go home and explain to their wives and pups why there is no dinner. :( shame on you paul :cussing:
jgf_zr 01-26-2004, 01:12 PM Deer are over populated as it is, you should have let nature take it's course.
rob7374 01-26-2004, 01:12 PM You should know better than to mess with mother natures way of natural selection.

those predators will just have to lunch it on rabbit.
Rocketman 01-26-2004, 01:43 PM tsk tsk Paul...that deer probably died over night anyway from the stress of the attack and of you chasing the whole deal...

no it just loped away slowly into the field where there were 2 other deer. i'll see tonight because after being there so often i am getting to recognize the herds.
TripleDigits 01-26-2004, 04:23 PM Poor paul, all this heat over saving a deer. :(
Then you drove off feeling good and the 3 wolves came back out of the woods and ate the deer :p
92Indy440 01-26-2004, 05:38 PM Come on guys... quit makin fun of Paul :sarcasm: ! He saved a deer!
MXZOOoom 01-26-2004, 05:45 PM Good for you Paul  I would have done the same thing !!! But they are over populated here too , then again so are the cayote
Rocketman 01-26-2004, 06:24 PM the Walt Disney generation kills me...
who are you to say he "saved" anything? But hey..I guess that's just Rocketman the biologist talking :sarcasm:
jwheeler 01-26-2004, 06:31 PM You did good paul, i would have done the same thing.

actually i think they ran into the bush to have a dump.
mean green machine 01-26-2004, 08:53 PM good job Paul
i would have done the same thing, and then id chase the wolves :D
FreezerBurnt 01-27-2004, 10:03 AM Paul you did the WRONG thing
Seriously, the wolves/coyotes were only doing what is natural to them, they needed that meal, :cussing: they don't do that sorta thing for fun they do it for survival
Chasing animals with a sled is wrong be it chasing rabbitts/deer Moose or even preditors
They do not have the luxury of going to the store and picking up food
Wouldn't that be nice if some greenie was in the bush watching and caught Paul chasing the wolves with his sled :cussing:
Paul I still :inlove: you but what you did was WRONG!!!!!!!!!
I am really surprised that some of our members would chase any animals :cussing: ,are you guys that ignorant and believe in the big bad wolf theorie????
Sorry but this thread should be closed especially if some greenies see this and do there selective quoting :(
EZRY2 01-27-2004, 11:34 AM I've got to come to paul's resque on this one. if the Deer are so over populated then I'm sure the coyotes were munching on another carces soon after paul left..
No harm done :p
paul yarek 01-27-2004, 12:26 PM anyone that says mother nature looks after her "is usually right". i know most of you are joking when you say "paul shouldn't have".
think about this though; how many have had a chance to scare off predators ? so it was a real rush for me.
Freezerburnt had to get married so someone would listen to him. LOL. you've been in the north too long pal.
Do the Doo 01-27-2004, 12:42 PM Deer is not the problem, it those damn Canadian Geese that drop 3 lbs. of manure a day per bird all over the sidewalks, lawns, cars, trucks...you get the picture. Next time Paul, drop some corn in the same field to attract some geese.
paul yarek 01-27-2004, 12:58 PM Do the doo,
something that people always get wrong is calling a canada geese a canadian goose. anyways that is a cornfield and until the deep snow there were flock after flock of canada geese landing there.
Indica 01-27-2004, 03:33 PM I would have ran them ALL over and had venison and coyote gumbo all week. Yummmmm :hallo1: :hallo1: :hallo1: :hallo1: :hallo1:
BTW Reimagal, how many husbands do you have? :dazed:
FishHog 01-27-2004, 03:34 PM I'm proud of you buddy.
There is not an overabundance of deer in southern Ont. Not that those coyotes won't find something else to eat.
I really don't think Pauls little encounter is going to make much of a difference, but I'm sure it was a neat experience, that I would like to have the opportunity to enjoy also.
FishHog
FreezerBurnt 01-27-2004, 04:34 PM :cussing: sakes Paul might of started the ball rolling on the APPOCCALIPSE :cussing:
God save us all :p
Seriously it was the wrong thing to do
Now Paul what would have happenned if you would have hit a frozen pile of Deer dunn and then lost it and ended up in the rhubbarb??
Yes that is right, the wolves would have had a nice used car salesman meal :dazed: :D ,though they would have gotten heartburn for sure  :D
I am sorry but I don't think we should be chasing animals let alone brag about it on a sledding site :sly:

no probably would have got sick and died.
dpaige 01-27-2004, 05:07 PM I would have eaten the deer myself!!!
To hell with the wolves, I'm hungry,
zr580cat 01-27-2004, 05:09 PM You should have videotaped the kill! Then you could start your own nature show. You could use the money that you made from it to start a "Save The Deer" project!

Natural Selection? This comming from the guy with the deer hanging out of his trailor! :D I joke, I joke. I'm shocked so many people said they would have tried to scare the wolves away, I'm sure some of you would have wanted to just watch... I woulda tried not to hit it, screw the deer, save the Phazer!
permafrost 01-27-2004, 06:56 PM :D Is this okay then FB :sly: Using the rationality that he shouldnt of chased the predators away, one could also say that we should not have deer yard s in the north and just let nature take its course.
permafrost 01-27-2004, 07:01 PM HEre is Paul on the way home :p :undercover:

Yep...I would have stopped to watch. Many forget the brutality of nature. Its good to be reminded that Bambi and his friends are make believe.

fresh road kill my favorite.
Russ Wheeler 01-27-2004, 09:18 PM speaking of deer, i was out riding tonight and came across two crossing a road...they didn't freeze in my headlight, just proceeded to slowly cross....i had to stop and everything to wait for them... :cussing: even had to shake the fist a bit to get them moving!!
midnight screamer 01-28-2004, 11:15 PM Way to go Paul! I would have done the same thing. It would be a great feeling :undercover:
Summit 144 01-29-2004, 08:44 AM I think I would have watched the kill. You will probably never see something like that again real life. Would have been very interesting. Then once the deer is down chase them away and take the deer. :p
3eyedcat 01-29-2004, 08:56 AM Paul, as good as it feels, wolves are burping it up as we speak. One of the best tracker's in north america.....
i would have done the same thing paul...my friend shot 2 dogs which he assumes where wild sense they were miles and miles away from any houses. the dogs were chassin a deer through the woods while he was deer hunting. he didnt get the deer but he got the dogs.
