With the handhelds, you can only store one track.
Everytime I turn it on/off, or try to track different areas, the ending points and new beginning points are alway connected with a inaccurate track. Is there anyway to eliminate this without downloading and clearing from GPS to start over?
What model are you working with?

That's one of the big advantages of a Garmin. Not sure of which models (I have a Legend) but I can have up to 12 tracks saved and/or displayed at any time. I orginally purchased a Sportrak and although I really preferred it more (buttons, mounting and power hookups, and reception) it could not have more than 1 track and also could not load custom maps created with GPSMapper (GPSMapEdit).

I have an Etrex Vista and a Sportrack Map

Didn't know that. Then the vista should hold the same. Never used it much because of the weak signal being in my pocket. I'm with you, I like the Sportrack to use better because of the buttons and signal, but I like the basemap software in the Etrex better.
What I might do is continue with the Sportrack, and after downloading, spend the time to clean up the tracks by deleting the parts that don't really connect.
The Vista can save 10 tracks.
To avoid the problem of ending tracks connecting to the begining of new tracks try this...start with the active track memory cleared...save the track after each day, outing or area you are recording...then clear the active track before you record a new day, outing or area. You can save up to 10 tracks this way without them being connected.
I would also download and install the latest software version for the Vista.
