What sled?

I tryed gutting my '00 700 MXZ --- bad idea, even with richer jetting.

Unless your sled is fully modified, I suspect that you'll get better performance with the tuned intake that comes on your sled.

Some stock sleds DO improve with taking some intake shelves off (Polaris and AC), but I think you're better off doing other things for performance on yellow sleds -- just my opinion -- every machine is different.

I gutted the airbox on my 97 Mach Z, only because I have Jaws pipes and it revs at 8900 rpm. The engine needs to breath more, increase the airflow through the engine, more gas (jetted 3 higher than stock).

If you gut the airbox, you could lean out the engine if you haven't done any jetting or pipe mods.

It depends on the sled.Sometimes its good for some power, other times it will just mess up the factory settings.

Engineers spent a lot of time tuning skidoo air boxs and pipes ,power gained by a guy w/ a hacksaw and no clue , none!

Gutting air box means loud sucking sounds comming from the gauge area.
Leans engine=burn down and lots of $$$$$ to fix. Little to no gain.
Leave alone or pay the piper! :D

As Mikadoo mentioned, gutting the box DOES make the sled sound different (much worse IMHO).

I have a gutted airbox for sale from an '00 700 MXZ if you want to try it -- cheap. (PM or E-mail me -- lee@roguewaveboards.com)
