I was reading in an owner's manual how to set the limiter strap on my 2000 Summit Highmark. I went out to adjust it and the lock nut (or jam nut) was backed off all the way to the bottom. In the manual it says to re-tighten this nut after you adjust the strap tension. I noticed on a friends machine (exactly the same sled) his nut is also backed off all the way. Any ideas why someone may have done this?? Will this hurt anything if left alone?? Any input would definitely be appreciated.

They either came loose or was left loose for on the hill adjustments. If it were mine I'd adjust the straps then snug the lock nut up and verify that you have a 17mm in the tools is case you wanted to adjust it on the snow. I always ran the strap not tight, but no slack, with the sled sitting unlaiden. Center shock spring full loose.
