: Pictures
Here are just a few. *Trip on weekend was awesome. *We sledded in to an old gold mine that was shut down in 1968. *Her are just a few pictures. *Temp was about -18c to -30c all weekend. *Very cold, but lots and lots of snow.

We had to cross huge lake to start the trip. *This lake is 30 miles long. *Drove across it towing my sleds.
There was a whole town at this mine. *Looks like a ghost town. *We were the first people there this year.
performancex 04-01-2002, 05:26 PM Why is the hood up on that ski-doo in the first pic???
z800rotax 04-01-2002, 05:30 PM Great pics newf. That would be a neat thing to come upon a ghost town like that in the middle of nowhere http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif
Sometimes we will put our helmets under the hood to warm then up and clear them from frost. *That picture was taken on saturday, it was around -25c.
The mine site had housing after housing. *Recreconal rooms, theater, billards hall, post office, apartments, swimming pool, etc.
It was like they just got up and left. *There were still unmade beds, dishes in the sink etc. *Newspapers were dated 1968.

performancex 04-01-2002, 06:09 PM I can't believe that place goes untouched like that. *I sure is cool!
I've seen some places like that near timmins, Can't believe people dont bring the stuff or at least sell it. I wonder if it's up for grabs or still owned by someone.
paul yarek 04-02-2002, 12:03 AM i wish i was there, seems so calm and these guys come to town. *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/devil.gif
Snow Monkey 04-02-2002, 12:52 AM http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/biggrin.gif Awesome pics *http://www.snowmobileworld-s2.com/forums/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/tounge.gif
revrnd 04-02-2002, 01:20 AM I'm surprised the government hasn't made them remove it all.
According to the goverment, you can take what ever you want. *However the ice road that we took to get there is very narrow in places, and thus only small items can be taken. *The total length of the trail is about 75 miles (one direction), plus another 40 by truck.
I took some core samples.
Back in the 60's clean up was not necessary (like it is today). *The orginal company "Discovery Mine" has since gone bankrupt. *Newer Mines like BHP and Diavik are required to pay the goverment for cleanup cost as they operate to prevent this from happening again. *It is sad, however it is also a peice of history that was cool to experience.

LadyK 04-02-2002, 10:48 PM Hey Newf did you know this place was there or did you just find it during your ride?

02MXZ600 04-04-2002, 02:58 AM Wow, those are some really nice pics. *I can't wait until I get to use my digital camer next year. *I got it a couple weeks too late to use it this year.
I always knew the mine was in the area, I had to get someone to mark a trail on a map.
We made arrangements to stay at Pilote Point Lodge http://www.pilotepoint.com/ which is 35 miles from the mine, *was very nice. *They even had a hot tub to relax in after a day of riding. *Ever sit in an outside hot tub at -25c, looking at the northern lights?
Didn't take any newpapers. *Should of.

How 'bout we have the SW member appreciation ride there? I've been to Alaska, but not the Yukon or NWT yet.
yellosled 10-11-2002, 09:13 PM Looks like an awesome place to visit. Would be fun to camp out there at night... ha ha. Thanks for posting them.
Sled Dogg 10-11-2002, 09:34 PM If we can sleep in sub temps in a tent we can crash the old motel I say. :) What a ride it could be guys, a ride of a lifetime. Just taking a real good look at the pics is awe inspiring the way it's been left like that.

Steven Hohman 10-11-2002, 09:35 PM Way to bring up an old one rev! I was just about to look for this one, so weird how they just leave..
revrnd 10-11-2002, 10:30 PM Newf, I can't believe the animals in the area haven't chewed up all the seat cushions. In the winter, the mice down in this neck of the woods just love getting into cottages & hunt camps & eating the matresses.
Laakefly 10-12-2002, 01:25 PM nice pics
fridgee800mxz 10-12-2002, 01:51 PM That would be soooo cool to see something like that on a sled trip or any trip for that matter. Too bad that one day the wrong person or group will go through there and be destructive and ruin it for the next bunch that wanna see it. :(
ZR Sled Head 10-12-2002, 04:52 PM Extra cool pics, thanks for bringing them back up Rev.
No doubt a ride of a lifetime.
z800rotax 10-13-2002, 08:02 AM I definately would love to ride there one day :) I find historical things
like that very interesting.
Mikadoo 10-13-2002, 09:40 AM That is just freaki'n awsome! I would give a left one to go on a ride like that! :0:
Yep! You have no idea what you are missing! That trip was nothing short of awesome. We are planning another trip to this mine, probably won't be till late March.
If anyone is interested, start planning now.
By the way, the snow is on the ground, and is currently snowing out. Only a matter of time before I can ride!
Cheers
