Hi, I'm new to the board and snowmobiling... I was given a '79 Arctic Cat Jag 3000 FA that had been sitting for a few years. After thoroughly cleaning the carb, I think(?) it runs pretty good (no bog on acceleration and idles good once warm). It'll do about 45 mph. Is that what it should be running? If I wanted to get more out of it, what modifications would you recommend? (It is totally stock and has about 1000 miles on it)
Thanks. :)

doesnt sound like its in bad shape,,,,I would also check all the grease zerts,,,,,I would also change the chain case oil as you really dont know how old the oil in there is,,,, I am assuming you got rid of the old gas and put in new,,,, you may wanna look over the clutches and belt to see if you have any cracks in the clutches or dry rot in the belt,,, replace as needed if it runs good from there, just enjoy it,,,

I have a 76 jag 3000 and on a good day I have seen as high as the low 50's with a buddy following me on a new zl......did a couple runs as a joke, but was surprised to see it hit past the 50 mph mark. Sounds to me like it is runing fine.

Hi, thanks for responding... I had it out today with a buddy who knows more about snowmobiles... He said it was running pretty good. I may be able to get a few more MPH out of it by adjusting the carb, but its running good so I probably won't mess with it this year. In the off season I will probably get a flame arrestor and a tiny tach and see if I can tweek it a bit. Now if we would only get more snow... (Here in southern IN we don't get that much...)
Thanks.
