I am rebuilding the old beast we got for free. I removed to oil box for the oil injection system. I am just going to mix the gas and oil. Where can i find parts for it? Like maybe engine and carb parts?

Thanks!!

You don't need any parts. just plug up the oil lines, find out what the oil fuel mixture is and mix the oil and gas together! cheep :) Do you have any pics? heres mine------>

No not yet! Well, i cleaned the carb out, YUCK! And i think 50:1 sounds good. :p But i need a throttle linkage because the one on it now is all Zip ties! lol

Mine is a 77.. the mixture is 20-1. I would make sure before you run it. I like the zip ties idea if you snap a cable in the woods somewhere at least it will get you home..
P.S. what size motor is it ?

Alright, 20:1?!??!? I did 50:1!! OH CRAP. Well, ok. I will have to see now. 1980 Pantera 500 Fan cooled. It runs really good! I think it would have run better if i had right mixture.

Now, it seems to have a ignition problem. Like the throttle has to be in a certain sport for it to start, whats up with that?

Thanks boys!

50:1 without the oil injection is the right mixture, that is what it was in 1980 also. 20:1 will foul your plugs and make it run badly. The handlebar throttle lever has a safety switch in it. If there is not proper tension on it at idle or if the throttle slide sticks or freezes, thereby removing the tension, it will kill the engine. Sort of like a kill switch. Make sure the throttle cable is tensioned properly and that your carb slide works smoothly. If the switch is bad you could bypass it(jump it out) or better yet fix it. They have been a trouble spot from what I hear. Better to fix it so if the throttle sticks, you or your sled will not crash into something.

what i've been told is that with today's oil you can go 40-50:1

Hi, I have two 1980 panther 440cc. The mix should be 50:1. Two great places on the net for parts are alpha_sports and browns leisure world. Both have parts breakdowns , alpha is a bit less expensive. They still sell the service manual for these sleds on alpha, I have it. Also , I found that my local dealer can still get most parts for tjis sled and no freight.

In regards to the previous post, the throttle switch is designed to cut spark if the tension is too loose. Holding down the throttle lever should produce spark if this is out of adjustment.

For the carb, I bought a gallon can of carb cleaner. Take the carb apart and dip the metal parts, not plastic. Costs about $15.00.
